Maxine Jane (Miller) Moody, 81, of Arcadia, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Funeral services were Aug. 9, at the United Methodist Church in Arcadia, with Pastor Jeff Hale officiating. Pallbearers were Joshua Staab, Stacey Kolar, Tyler Fausset, Evan Moody, Eric Real and Tony Real. Burial was at Lee Park Cemetery near Arcadia, with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of Arcadia or Lee Park Cemetery.
Richard L. "Dick" Rieckman, 65 of Alvo, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, in Omaha after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Dick was born Aug. 17, 1945, in Lincoln, to Donald O. and Iola I. (Rosencrantz) Rieckman. He was a graduate of Eagle High School class of 1963.
Dick was married to Sandra I. Polenz May 5, 1967. He was a life-long farmer, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Waverly.
Floyde R. Loy, 64 of Cairo, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services were Tuesday, Aug. 9, at First Baptist Church in Cairo with Pastor Darrell Holzinger and the Rev. Jack Bolling officiating. Interment was in the Wood River Mennonite Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family or the donorâ€™s choice. Apfel Funeral Home of Cairo is serving the family.
Floyde was born Feb. 26, 1947, in Broken Bow, the son of Kenneth and Bernice (Allen) Loy. He grew up in Ansley, graduating from Ansley High School May 25, 1965.
Rosalie Agnes Seda Turley passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at her home in Arnold. She was born Nov. 2, 1930, to Stanley and Mary (Janasofsky) Seda in Arnold, on a country farm in Mills Valley.
She attended Mills Valley grade school and graduated from Arnold High School in 1949. After high school, she worked at the Arnold Hospital for Jay and Norna Tryon for three years as a nurse and assisted Dr. Reeves, Dr. McShane, Dr. Chaloupka and Dr. Bryson with surgery and baby delivery, doing the duties of an R.N. She brought much cheer and laughter to many patients.
Bob Edelman, age 73 of Kansas, formerly of Merna, died Monday, July 18, 2011, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Shawnee Mission, Kan.
Bob was born Aug. 25, 1937, in Broken Bow to Perl and Cleo Edelman. He grew up in the Sandhills near Seneca, where he enjoyed playing all sports and acquired a love for music. This love of music stayed with him his entire life.
Emanuel (Toby) Hosek, 85, of Sargent, died Aug. 1, 2011, at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver, Colo. A graveside service will be set at a later date.
Toby was born April 19, 1926, in Sargent, to Joseph and Agnes (Hejsek) Hosek. He graduated from Sargent High school and then served in the U.S. Air Force.
After his discharge he worked as a bookkeeper in South Dakota for 33 years, returning to Sargent upon retiring. Toby enjoyed flying planes as a hobby as well as building model airplanes. He also enjoyed playing the accordion all his life.
Byron E. White was born March 15, 1944, in Igloo, S.D. to Ralph and Thelma (Baldwin) white. he graduated from Tooele High School and attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish, S.D.
During this time he married Kathleen Cooper. In 1971, Byron and Kathleen moved to Marshall, Minn., where they resided for many years.
Byron and Kathleen had two daughter; Jodi (White) and Nikki (White) Burghduff. While in Marshall, Byron worked for Lockwood Motors car dealership until his retirement in 2000.
Charlotte lone Esch, age 85 of Broken Bow, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center.
Graveside services were Monday, August 1, at the Broken Bow Cemetary with Pastor Michael Lange officiating. Govier Brothers Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials have been established to Custer Care Center and Heritage Hall.
Stanley Spencer Myers, age 69, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011, in Denver Colo., after an unyielding and courageous battle with cancer. Stan was born Feb. 15, 1942, the third child of Willard and Beulah Myers. Born in Broken Bow, he attended and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1961.
Nicholas Lee "Nick" Ryan was born on a bright Sunday morning, Jan. 18, 1981, in Kearney, to Randy and Shirley Ryan. Nick departed this life July 18, 2011, from a hiking accident along the Grinnell Glacier Trail in Montanaâ€™s Glacier National Park.
Nick grew up on the family farm north of Overton. Nick seemed to instinctively have a sense of adventure. Early days were spent riding bikes, horses, playing ball and just looking at things for a time, taking them apart to see how they worked and then reassembling them.
