Mae McDonald, 72

Mae LaVonne and her twin, Kay Lorene, were born Jan. 22, 1940, to Edgar and A. Doris Slingsby in a little house near Westerville. In the fall of that year, the family moved to California and returned back to Nebraska when Mae was five.
She attended grade school at the Knight country school outside of Westerville. She spent her first two high school years in Ansley where she was a cheerleader and the last two years in Arcadia where she was a band majorette. This is where she met her future husband Joe McDonald. To this union four children were born: Tammy, Michael, Douglas and Laurie.

Ruth Bolen, 88

Ruth Marie (Bowley) Bolen departed from this earth, her family and friends to join the Lord, her husband, John L. Bolen, (Aug. 11, 2003), son, Charles, a great-great grandson, parents John and Myrtle (Amsberry) Bowley, sisters Florence (Morgan), Sarah (Dutton), LaVonne, Ruby (Chrisp), and Katherine (Geiser).

Forest "Jim" Fagan, 84

Forest C. "Jim" Fagan, 84, of Anselmo, passed away Feb. 18, 2012 at Callaway.
Jim was born October 1, 1927, in Denver, Colo., to Ellen (Teahon) and John Fagan. He attended rural schools in the Anselmo area and in 1945 he graduated from Anselmo High school. After high school, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Shirley June Rama was born June 6, 1922, in Merna, to Clarence Eugene Rama and Wilma Loy (Taylor) Rama. She attended country school and graduated from Merna High School in 1939.

Arvid Smith, 86

Arvid William Smith, age 86 of Thedford, died Feb. !4, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be Monday Feb. 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Bethel Assembly of God Church with Pastor Ron Master officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with full Military Honors by American Legion 230 and Thedford VFW 2023. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 PM at the church. Memorials are suggested to Hillcrest Cemetery Fund or the donor’s choice.

Roger Elfgren, 68

Roger Elfgren passed away at St. Johns Good Samaritan center in Kearney Feb. 8, 2012.
Roger was born Nov. 24, 1943, in East Killingly, Conn., the fourth of six children born to Ernest and Dorothy Elfgren. Roger was 12 when he traveled by covered wagon with his parents, brothers and sisters from Connecticut to Nebraska, arriving in Broken Bow in August 1956.
Roger attended school in Connecticut thru the 7th grade. Roger graduated from Broken Bow High School with the Class of 1961. After graduation, he attended business school in Omaha for a year.

Goldie Shepherd, 98

Goldie Shepherd, age 98, of Grand Island, formerly of Ansley, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at the Wedgewood Hospice Center in Grand Island.
Goldie was born March 26, 1913, near Arcadia. She was the youngest daughter of Samuel D. and Rhoda R. (Henry) Hurlbert.

Marie Allen, 87

Marie M. Allen, age 87, of North Platte, passed away Feb. 9, 2012, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Mason City, to Harry and Elva Tracy Holm. Marie graduated from Bridgeport High School.
After graduation she taught school in rural western Nebraska. She married James McVay in 1943. Marie traveled extensively with her husband who was in the Army Air Corps. Their travels included Alaska. To this union three children were born; James, Sue and John.

Norma Staab, 88

Norma M. Staab, 88 of Grand Island, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Tiffany Square Center. Services were Monday, Feb. 13, in the chapel of Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. Gary Schulte officiating.
To honor Mrs. Staab's request, cremation has taken place. Burial of ashes was at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.
Mrs. Staab was born Sept. 27, 1923, at Mason City, the daughter of Charles and Petra (Lauridsen) Mohr.
Her husband, Glenn Staab, preceded her in death in 2004.

Marjory Myers, 95

Marjory Myers was in Hospice care at the Homestead CAre Facility in Lincoln, and left this world Feb. 7, 2012.
Marjory Ruth Clay Myers was born July 11, 1916, in the family sod house at the farm four miles west of Broken Bow. She was the 11th of 12 children born to J. William clay and Minnie Amsberry.
She attended grade school at the Crackerjack School through the eighth grade and then rode with her brothers to the Broken Bow High School. Some of her brothers played football for Broken Bow, and Marjory participated in some of the girl’s after school athletics while waiting for them.
