Ben Kezior, 86 of Merna, died Oct. 7, 2012, at Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Seth Bates officiating. Interment will be in the Gates Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Ben was born Dec. 15, 1925, at Farwell, to Joseph and Stella (Tyma) Kezeor.
Craig Lindly, age 50 of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Anselmo, died Oct. 1, 2012, in Sacramento.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery in Anselmo with military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers, with family greeting friends from 5-6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Hospital.
Ildie Mae Blixt, a resident of Chapman, Kan., passed away at Chapman Valley Mahnor in Chapman, Kan., Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at the age of 99.
Ildie was born April 9, 1913, at Cumro. Her parents were Hoasel and Inez Trew Wheeler. She attended Hall Grade School, and helped care for the family after their mother died.
She was married to Manfred Blixt March 30, 1937, in Broken Bow. They lived their lives in the Sandhills on Tallin Table, and in and around Arnold. They moved into Arnold in 1957, and she was preceded in death by her husband in June 1986.
Beatrice Elaine Datus Cooley was born March 30, 1926, to Virgil E. and Helen G. Copsey Datus at Westerville, and passed away Sept. 14, 2012, at Golden Living Center.
She attended school in Westerville and later graduated. In high school she met the love of her life, Ivan Rex Cooley. May 7, 1942, they were married.
To this union three children were born: Gary Lee, Sept. 9, 1943, Larry Dale, Sept. 27, 1948, and Nancy Annette, Dec. 26, 1954. The couple resided near the Westerville Community before relocating to Albany, Ore.
Howard A. âJ.R.â Hanson, Jr., 70, of Lexington, passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
Howard was born Jan. 28, 1942, in Tooele, Utah to Howard A., Sr. and Marie W. (Galbraith) Hanson. He was the second of four children.
As a young child his family returned to Lexington where he was raised. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1960.
Kathryn Mannel passed away at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln with her three children at her side. She fought a lengthy illness with grace and dignity and without complaint to the very end.
Kathryn is the daughter of Frank and Ruth Anderson Bartak, and grew up on a farm west of Merna A childhood member of the Cliff Union Church, church activities provided fond memories throughout her life. Kathryn attended Sunflower Country School and graduated from Merna High School.
Martin R. Achterberg, 89, of Lexington, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Park Avenue Estates in Lexington. He was born Feb. 18, 1923, south of Oconto, on the home place to Carl and Ida (Camin) Achterberg.
He attended school at rural District 217. Martin was married to Bonny Estergard April 12, 1956, at First Lutheran Church at Buffalo.
The couple farmed near Oconto until 2006, when they moved to Park Avenue Estates in Lexington. Martin enjoyed his life on the farm, planting the seeds in the spring and harvesting in the fall.
Amy Bundy, age 89 of Broken Bow, formerly of Ansley, died Oct. 3, 2012, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Amy Natalie (Tobin) Bundy was born May 18, 1923, to Amelia (Small) and Walter Tobin at Clarks. As a little girl, and the oldest of four girls in the family, she enjoyed helping her father on the family farm.
She loved the farm life and caring for the animals. She graduated from high school at Hordville. The family then moved to the Comstock - Arcadia area where she met and married Evert Allen Bundy.
Helen Cole, formerly of Merna, died Oct. 1, 2012, at Heritage Hall in
Broken Bow. Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 4, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Helen was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., one of seven
children born to Joseph and Anna Zubrzycki.
She was very creative with her hands. Her artistic nature came out in the wedding cakes she baked and decorated, quilts she designed and
sewed, and letters written to her grandkids in her beautiful
handwriting. With a loving heart, she created hundreds of sewn,
knitted, and crocheted pieces to give away.
Donald Carroll Hill, 81 of Broken Bow, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. Memorial services were Monday, Oct. 1, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Jim Stark officiating. Inurnment was in the Broken Bow Cemetery, with Govier Brothers Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Don was born Feb. 22, 1931, to Carroll and Madge (Heitz) Hill near Oconto. His early years were spent on the family farm near Oconto. He graduated from Oconto High School in 1948, and from there went to Kearney State College where he received his teaching degree.
