Albert L. Thomas, age 91 of Scribner, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.
Albert was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Milburn, to Wilson E. and Clara Edna âHogaboomâ Thomas. He was raised in Milburn and graduated from Dunning High School in 1939. After high school Albert began his long career with the telephone company. Albert married Zita Mae Foote Aug. 16, 1947. The couple moved to Scribner in 1957. Albert was working for Great Plains Communication until he retired in 1987.
Leonard F. Edwards, 85 of Ord, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord.
A Celebration of Life was held Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Fathers Josh Brown and Mark Maresh officiated. Cremation followed and a private inurnment was in the Ord City Cemetery, with Military Honors presented by the Ord VFW Post 7029 and American Legion Post 38. Memorials are suggested to the Ord FFA. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Glen A. Gascho, 92 of Cairo, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society in Wood River. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at the First Baptist Church in Cairo with the Rev. Darrel Holzinger and the Rev. Jack Bolling officiating. Burial will be in the Mennonite Church Cemetery of Wood River. Apfel Funeral Home of Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
Glen A. Gascho was born May 21, 1921, in rural Hall County to Arthur and Barbara (Stutzman) Gascho.
Rosemarie Morrow, 72 of Broken Bow, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the Golden Living Center of Broken Bow. Memorial services were Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul, with the Rev. Ray Kosmicki officiating. Inurn-ment was in the Ord City Cemetery.
Mrs. Morrow was born Aug. 21, 1941, at Neun-kirchen (Saar), Germany, the daughter of Johann Wilhelm and Ottilin (Otto) Lenz.
Barry Duane Young, 70 of Winona, Minn., and formerly from Nebraska, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home.
Barry, an only child, was born Aug. 12, 1943, in Litchfield, to Robert and Elaine (Sigler) Young. He was raised in Ansley and graduated from high school in 1961. He enlisted in the United States Air Force Jan. 18, 1963, and was stationed in New Mexico, where he was present during underground nuclear testing.
Charles K. âSmokeyâ West, 83 of Kearney, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home. Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremat-ion Services in Kearney with the Rev. Dean Pofahl officiating. Burial was at the Pleasanton Cemetery. Royle Dee Hazen, age 68, of Stromsburg, formerly of Milburn, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Henry George Duerkson, 84, of Broken Bow died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Mason City First Baptist Church with Pastor Roger McDermott officiating. There will be no visitation and the inurnment will be at a later date.
Henry was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Newton, Kan., to Henry B. and Lizzy (Geddert) Duerkson.
He was joined in Christian marriage to Dorothy Ann Adams Aug. 3, 1957, at Oakland Park Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan.
Delbert James Jacobsen, 76, of Norwich, NY, formerly of Sargent, went home to be with his Savior Oct. 3, 2013, after a prolonged illness. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his loving family.
Del was born in Minden, April 7, 1937, to Glenn and Iris Jacobsen. He graduated from Minden High School in 1955.
Lena Elvina (Bradley) Bratton was born July 3, 1924, in Dothan, Huston County, Ala., to Carrie (Richardson) and Perry Bradley. Lena died Oct. 2, 2013, in Broken Bow.
Carrie and Perry had three children; Lena, Robert and Marion. When Lena was about 11-years-old, her daddy passed away. She had to quit school to care for her brother and sister so Carrie could work to feed the family.
Carrie met and married Henry Edgar and Lena gained two sisters, June and Jean Edgar. Also to this union, she eventually gained step-brothers Stewart, Charles, Johnny and Ballard.
