Virginia May Marsh, age 95, passed away Nov. 27, 2013, in Chandler, Ariz. Virginia was born Dec. 31, 1917, at Arcadia, to Heslie Hall and Rebecca Kay (Hill) Shepperd. She attended rural school in
Valley County and graduated from Comstock High School in 1934.
Virginia married Orval H. Marsh Feb. 2, 1938. Virginia worked as a sales clerk at the Farmers Union and Copp's Store in Comstock. After her sons graduated from high school, she moved to Lincoln and worked at Kresge's and K Mart until she retired in 1983.
Albert Neufeld was born Oct. 7, 1920, at Delft, Minn., to Frank and Anna (Krahn) Neufeld. When he was 2-years-old, the family moved to Lostwood, N.D. to farm. Albert, two brothers and a sister attended a country school. Because of the drought the family moved back to Minnesota and he farmed with his dad.
After he was injured in a corn picker accident, he left the farm and went to Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, graduating in 1949. Albert became a pastor and his first church was a small rural church in Arena, N.D.
Memorial funeral services for Marvin L. Amos, age 74, of Broken Bow, were Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at 3 p.m., at the Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent with the Rev. Marvin Bauer officiating. Inurnment was in the Dry Valley Cemetery south of Sargent. Rhoad Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Marvin was born Jan. 9, 1939, to Otto and Florence Edna (Oliver) Amos near Comstock. Marvin grew up in the Dry Valley area where his family farmed. He attended the one room school in Dry Valley and continued his education in Sargent Public Schools.
Nancy Ellen Glick, 63, of rural Angola, Ind., passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at 5:35 a.m.. She was born in Anselmo, Jan. 9, 1950, to Richard and Frances McCormick.
She graduated from Anselmo-Merna High School May 27, 1969.
Betty L. Fowler, 77 of Arcadia, passed away Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Ms. Fowlerâ€™s wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life was Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at the Arcadia United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Jeff D. Hale and Pastor Marty Robbins officiated. Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Fire and Rescue Department. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Louie Bert Murray, age 79, died Nov. 23, 2013, at Holyoke, Colo.
Louie Bert Murray was born May 23, 1934, in North Platte, the third child of Edward and Lucy Murray. At one week of age, Louie and his family moved to the family ranch in southern Cherry County. Louie began school at the Mullen Grade School in 1939.
Arlin D Wiemer was born in York, Nov. 1, 1935, to Martin F and Sophia (Zwiebel) Wiemer and died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013. The family lived on a farm at Waco.
He was baptized and confirmed at St Johnâ€™s Lutheran Church. He graduated from Waco High School and continued his education in Grand Island and Lincoln, to become a Certified Public Account-ant. Arlin enjoyed fishing, hunting traveling, putzing around in his shed and family activities.
James Thomas Clay was born Feb. 10, 1950, in Broken Bow. He passed away Nov. 7, 2013, in Lincoln in Bryan Hospital.
Jim is survived by sisters, Jean Anderson and husband Dillard of North Platte, Liz Baker of Kenosha, Wisc., and Dawn Johnson of Merna; brothers, Lawrence Clay and wife Judy of Horton, Kan., and Roger Clay of Merna; plus nieces, nephews and a host of Clay and Christensen relatives.
Rodger Dean Ritchie, age 64, of rural Broken Bow, died Nov. 3, 2013, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 14, 1949, at the family home west of Broken Bow to Charles J. "Doc" and Wanda L. (Cool) Ritchie. He and his brothers and sister grew up in the Union Valley Community. Rodger attended the Ryno country school through the 8th grade and was graduated from the Merna High School in 1968.
James E. Sharp, 73, of rural Burwell, was called home to join Godâ€™s Angel Army by his Lord and Savior Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
A Celebration of Life was held Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Burwell with Pastor Dennis Davenport officiating. A Private Masonic Graveside Service was at the Hillside Cemetery in North Loup. Memorials are suggested to the Shrine Hospital for Children. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
