Marvin W. âBarneyâ Hickenbottom, 95, of Callaway, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Callaway Good Life Center.
He was born August 12, 1917, in Callaway, to Rolla Clifford and Frances Addie (Schreyer) Hickenbottom. He was a 1934 graduate of Gandy High School in Logan County. Following school Barney farmed and moved from Arnold back to Callaway in 1955.
He was married to LaVonne Whipple Oct. 7, 1956, in Callaway at the Methodist Parsonage. Two boys were born two this union: Duane and Allan.
John (Jack) William Collier, 85, of Arnold, departed this life April 25, 2013 in Callaway, after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Jack was born July 9, 1927, in Kearney, to John N. and Helen L. (Bartz) Collier. Jack grew up in Stapleton, and graduated from Baker High School in 1945.
Jack started his life-long love and career in ranching as a young man at the Baskin Ranch north of Stapleton. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1946, and served his country during World War II in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1947.

Scott Nelson Reinhard, resident of Broken Bow, died March 15, 2013. He was 59 years old.
To those who knew him, Scott Reinhard was a friendly and sociable member of his community. He will be remembered as a man of strong Christian faith who enjoyed helping his neighbors and working outdoors. As an engineer, a farmer and a photographer, Scott was passionately interested in the natural beauty of Godâs creation.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Jean and Jerry Reinhard. He is survived by his siblings, children and grandchildren.
Charles Giles, age 89 of Broken Bow, died Tuesday April 16, 2013, at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Friday, April 19, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Interment was in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or the Custer County Foundation.
Dale Andersen, 86, passed away at his home in Kearney Tuesday, April 16, 2013, after a year and a halfâs illness. Memorial services were Monday, April 22, 2013, at the O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment will be in the Kearney Cemetery at a later time. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Seneca Cemetery, or the First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Patrick Joseph "Joe" Tully journeyed home to his maker Nov. 16, 2012. He now joins the love of his life - his wife Frances, and their son Gale.
Services were held at the Holy Apostles Catholic Church in Meridian, Idaho Dec. 7, 2012. Burial followed at Cloverdale Memorial Park.

Loma J. Ballenger, 89, of Callaway, formerly of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Callaway Good Life Center.
She was born June 10, 1923, in Callaway, to William J. and Etta May (Weaver) Longmore. Loma attended Hillside rural school near Callaway.
She was united in marriage to Carl W. Ballenger June 29, 1946, in Callaway. Seven children were blessed to this marriage; twin sons, David and Dale, Dorothy, Darla, Dea and Daryl.
Just before dawn April 6, 2013, Melva Jean Warren left this earth for her heavenly home. She was born July 10, 1924, in her grandparentâs home in Republic County Kansas to Marshall Allen and Sylva May Beecher, the oldest of three children.
She rode a horse seven miles to District 9 Republic County Country School through 6th grade, and later drove a horse and buggy. She started her high school years at Chester High School and graduated from Belleville High School in 1942.
Doris A. Roberts, 92, of Sargent, passed away April 11, 2013, at the Callaway Good Life Center in Callaway.
Funeral services were April 15, 2013, at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent, with Pastor Marty Robbins officiating. Burial took place in the New Helena Cemetery.
Doris Arlene Roberts was born Jan. 29, 1921, at Merna, to Wallace and Iona (Lange) Blakeman. Doris was the third child born to this union. She graduated from Merna High School in 1941.
Doris married E. A. (Jap) Roberts Oct. 17, 1941. To this union two sons were born; Wallace (Wally) and Leslie (Shorty) Roberts.

Lawrence Niel Swartz, 74 of Oconto, died Sunday,April 14, 2013, at Callaway District Hospital. Memorial services will be Friday, April 19, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the Oconto Community Center in Oconto. A potluck will follow the service at 6 p.m. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughter, Margaret; son, Lawrence Thomas; numberous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his brothers and sisters. He is also survived by his three special boys across the street.
