Bonita Sarah (Palmer) Dunbar, 93, of Taylor, Nebraska passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Custer Care Center in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
Bonnie was born March 3, 1920, to Percy T. and Mattie (Strohl) Palmer in rural Loup County. She grew up on the family farm south of Almeria. She attended grade school in a sod house at Hill View - District 34 - for six years and then two years in Almeria District. She graduated from Taylor High School in 1937.
Mary Jane Brestel, 82, of Callaway, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at the Callaway Good Life Center.
Mary Jane Brestel was born March 11, 1931, to Roy Winslow and Alma Ruth (Vincent) Lichtenberger. She attended school in Callaway, graduating Valedictorian of her 1948 class. She attended two semesters at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, majoring in agriculture.
Virgil â€śBudâ€ť Ohmberger, age 90 of Broken Bow, formerly of the Sargent and Ainsworth area, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Burial with Military Honors was at the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Sargent. Memorials have been established to the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Sargent. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
Dennis Allan Gebers was born April 13, 1953, and went to be with the Lord Aug. 31, 2013.
Son of Loren and Inez (Woerlen) Gebers, Dennis had four siblings; sister, Teresa Gebers; brother, Duane and Sandy Gebers; sister, Marcia and Ira Beasterfield; brother Phil and Angie Gebers and many nieces and nephews. He grew up in Johnson, and graduated from Johnson-Brock High School in 1971.
Cortez Lewis, 78, of Litchfield, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
Services were Friday, Aug. 30, at St. Gabrielâ€™s Catholic Church in Hazard, with the Rev. Josh Brown officiating. Burial was in the Litchfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Russell Zutavern, Coy Lewis, Jose Dimas, Nick Killough, Ronnie Sweley and Bob Riessland. Memorials are suggested to the Litchfield Fire Department or Asera Care Hospice of Kearney. Rasmussen Funeral Home in Ravenna was in charge of arrangements.
Ruth R. Parker, age 91 of Broken Bow, died Aug. 28, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013,at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Jerry Ricketts officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Sargent. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be given to the family to assist with funeral costs.
John Richmond Lee was born Oct. 27, 1944, in Valentine, to Marion and Margaret Richmond Lee. He passed away Aug. 17, 2013, at Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln.
John attended grade school at Brownlee and later graduated from Valentine High School. September 26, 1964, John married Kay Anderson in Hastings. To this union three children were born.
John was a lifelong rancher in Cherry County; he loved the outdoors, and was an avid artifact hunter and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Kenneth D. Kingston passed peacefully in the early morning of Aug. 22, 2013, in Omaha.
Ken, a longtime resident of Columbus, will be eternally remembered for his kind, encouraging words and love for family. He had great pride in each of his five grandchildren. He also shared a strong passion for baseball and the Huskers.
Born in Pender to Ernest and Faye Kingston, Ken served in the US Army during WW II. Wounded, he was decorated with the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for military heroism and achievement.
Maxine Illingworth, age 96 of Broken Bow, died Aug. 25, 2013, at her home. Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Govier Brothers Mortuary with the Rev. Todd Karges and Chaplain Steve Shanno officiating. Interment was in the West Union Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
Glen Wayne Alspaugh, age 80, loved God, family and writing poetry. Glen passed from this life June 19, 2013, at his home with his wife by his side, as a result of a brave battle with cancer.
Glen was born to Lewis and Frances (Varana) Alspaugh May 22, 1933, at the home of his grandparents at Cumro. Glen spent his childhood with his parents and siblings in Custer County on a farm near Callaway. His family moved to Broken Bow in 1941 and spent the World War II years in Broken Bow attending school there.
