Glen C. Birney, age 52, died Sunday March 23, 2014 at his home near Broken Bow. Funeral services will be Thursday March 27, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow, with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary, with the family greeting friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family, to be designated at a later date.
James Arthur (Jim) Lyddon of Omaha, formerly of Broken Bow, passed away on March 1, 2014, at his daughters home in Littleton, Colo.
The youngest son of Kenneth and Mabel (Edwards) Lyddon was born on February 21, 1937, in Kenosha, Wisc. He grew up in multiple locations including Kenosha, Wisc., and Chicago, Ill.; but it was Broken Bow, Neb., his family settled in 1947 opening the Ben Franklin and Fabric Center.
Joan Ruth Ostrand was born April 18, 1948, in Sargent to Paul and Frances Wagner. She passed away in her home in Omaha on Feb. 23, 1014.
She grew up in Nebraska living part of teen years in Broken Bow where she attended High School. Joan attended Evangel College in Springfield, Mo., before marrying David Ostrand of Ansley.
They lived in Colorado Springs, CO., where their son, Karl was born. Later they moved to Virginia Beach, VA., where they lived for 25 years.
Kearney, NE- Roger D. Clay, age 60, of Merna, died Sunday, March 16, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, March 21, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Barry Johnson officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation is planned for Thursday, March 20, 2014, from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Roger was born on July 28, 1953, in Broken Bow to Ralph and Betty (Christensen) Clay.
George Baker Ashenfelter, 77, of Broken Bow, passed away March 12, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimerâ€™s.Â
He was born in Pennsylvania, Nov. 13, 1936, to Minnie Jane and Robert Hewlett Ashenfelter, the second of two children.Â
He was married to Penny Purcell on June 24, 1967, in Broken Bow.Â They lived in New Jersey, New York, Virginia and California before returning to Broken Bow.Â
George graduated from West Chester University and received a B.A. in Education, and an M.B.A. in Computer Finance from Kennedy Western University.Â
Georgia Edna Finney, 93 years old of St. Joseph, Mo., died March 11, 2014, at Abbe Woods Nursing Home in St. Joseph.
Georgia was born Sept. 21, 1920, at Ashby. She was the oldest of four children born to Ernest and Mary (Snyder) Prindle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Ray A. Gilbert and Gerald E. Finney; son Dale Ray; brothers, Walter (Jake) Prindle and Clifford R. Prindle; sister Opal A. Buechler; niece Ardith M. Peterson Reineke; step-grand daughter Joann Finney and step grandson Tad Finney.
Duane Merlin Vannice, 94, passed away March 7, 2014, at Gateway Senior Living in Lincoln. He is survived by his wife, Eugenia, his sons and their wives, Merlin Albert and Bette Ann of Boalsburg, PA and Eugene Duane and Sally of Lincoln, NE and his grandson, Tyler Duane, also of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin C. and Esther Rae Vannice, his daughter, Diane Lou, and his sister, Evelyn Kelly.
Dwayne Andersen age 92 of Seneca died March 9, 2014, at the Centennial Park Retirement Home in North Platte.
Funeral services were conducted March 14, 2014, at the Seneca Auditorium in Seneca, Neb., with the Rev. Sunny Ridings officiating. The family greeted friends the evening before. at the Seneca Auditorium. Memorials are suggested to the Thedford American Legion or the United Church of Christ at Seneca. Interment was in in the Seneca Cemetery.
Albert Hoesel, 77, of Callaway, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Callaway District Hospital after a hard fought battle with acute myeloid
leukemia. He was born April 16, 1936, southeast of Callaway, to Fred and Ada
Albert attended country
school and graduated from Callaway High School with the class of 1954.
Albert was united in marriage to Louise Schaeffer Jan. 3, 1956. They were the parents of five children; Mike and wife Lori Hoesel of Gothenburg,
Tom and wife Jodi Hoesel of Callaway, Diane and husband Dale Seelhoff
Richard A. (Dick) Nelson, 83 of Ansley, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln, surrounded by his family, after a month long battle with pneumonia. Dick was born July 23, 1930, in the Algernon township near Mason City, to Ernest E. and Blanche A. (Thorn) Nelson.
