Arlene Dew departed this earth for her Heavenly Home Oct. 9. 2014, at the age of 83.
She received loving care at the Life Care Center of Cheyenne, Wyo., during the waning years of her life.
Born in Valentine, Arlene was the eldest daughter of George and Mildred Schmidt.
She grew up with her parents and five siblings on a farm in rural South Dakota She graduated from Winner High School in South Dakota in 1949. After graduation, Arlene was employed by the Cherry County Treasurerâs Office in Valentine.
Her favorite sports were baseball and football. Arlene
Patricia Louise Peacock, 70, of Broken Bow passed away peacefully Oct. 4, 2014, surrounded by her family at her home.
She was born Nov. 8, 1943, in Loup City to Walter and Viola Gitchel (Bivens).
Patricia attended grade school and graduated from Comstock High School. She also attended several college classes from Kearney State College.
Roberta Elaine (Farritor) Collins, 59, passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at her home in Broken Bow.
Roberta was born May 24, 1955, in Broken Bow, to William and Margaret (Kelly) Farritor.
She attended Broken Bow Grade School and graduated from the Broken Bow High School in 1975.
She married Stan Collins June 19, 1982, in Broken Bow where they made their home.
Berta worked over a quarter of a century as a Head Start teacher and then as a para educator at the Broken Bow Public Schools. She loved working with the kids and was an excellent teacher.
Ollie was born Aug. 25, 1924, at the family home in Litchfield to Niels Hans and Emma Marie (Olsen) Nielsen. She was the sixth born of seven children, Orville, Harold, Clara, Anna, Dorothy and Lillian. She attended Litchfield Public graduating in 1942.
Ollie taught in rural schools near Wood River and Oconto. It was at the mailbox at the Tuckerville School she met the love of her life, Harley Richard âDickâ Hanson, the local rural mailman. They were married July 10, 1949, at Ollieâs parentâs home in Litchfield. They were married for 63 years until Dickâs death separated them.
Frank Lanka, age 78, of Grand River, Iowa, died Wednesday Oct. 1, 2014, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Memorial services were Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at the Broken Bow Cemetery with the Rev. Jurdan Counts officiating.
Frank was born July 19, 1936, at Ogallala, to Frank and Grace (Hayes) Lanka.
Frank excelled in football and in track at Stapleton High School, and held the discus throwing record at Stapleton High School for many years. He loved football.
Timothy J. Marten age 41 of Lincoln, died Oct. 4, 2014, at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln.
Tim was born May 20, 1973, to Herman âFritzâ and Shirley [Malmberg] Marten.
Tim attended Sandhills Public Schools and later graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in Lincoln.
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Marten of Lincoln; sister, Inger [Alvin] of Ansley; nieces Delaney, Gillian and Ashlynn Sherbeck; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Tim was preceded in death by his father, Herman âFritzâ Marten; and his grandparents.
Victor Bruce Crawford, age 83 of Broken Bow formerly of Mason City, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at the Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 6, 2014 in the Baptist Church in Mason City, with the Rev. John Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Mason City Cemetery.
Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
Ollie R. Hanson, age 90 of Grand Island, formerly of Scotia died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be Friday Oct. 3, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Oconto Community Building in Oconto.
Burial will be in the Oconto Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday 5 - 7 p.m. at Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Becky Lou Smith of Broken Bow, formerly of Taylor, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at the Melham Medical Center.
Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent with Marty Robbins officiating.
Burial was at the Taylor Cemetery in Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sophie and Roy Eberle College Fund.
Becky was born to Lee and Betty (Nelson) Smith at Sargent on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1954.
Becky attended school at Loup County Public School in Taylor, graduating in 1973.
Shirley Ann Hoskins, 76, passed away Sept. 24, 2014, with her family by her side in Wray, Colo.
Shirley was born Jan. 4, 1938, in Blue Island, Ill. to Charley Irvin and Nellie Pauline (Bullis) Peck.
Shirley married Virgil Hoskins, Jr. Feb. 15, 1958, in Ranton, N.M., then moved to Denver, Colo., in 1959.
In Denver, Shirley worked as an accountant and Virgil was in the
military and worked in a grocery store.
In 1960 they moved to Arnold where their first son, Kenneth, was born. In 1965, they moved to Minnesota and in 1971 Laverne was born.
