Fred Cram, 83

July 25, 2014

Fred Lee Cram, 83, was born Oct. 25, 1930, in Custer County, to Osceola Cram and Alice (Torrey-Huffman) Cram. He attended grade school at District 100 just a little way from where he was born.

Fred lived and worked on the home place with his father up through his teenage years when, like most young men, a beautiful filly caught his eye. He wooed Rosetta Dilsaver until she finally accepted his hand in marriage Oct. 14, 1951.

Gary Peterson, 69

Gary Lee Peterson, 69, of Springville, Calif., passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, in his home.

There will be a celebration of Gary’s life at the American Legion Club in Stromsburg Saturday, July 19 at 5 p.m. All family and friends are welcome to attend.

Gary was born in Omaha, Dec.12, 1944. He graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1963.

Gary began farming after high school, although he helped on his parents’ farm growing up. He joined the National Guard in 1965 and served for 6 years.

Hazel Roberts, 92

Hazel Mae Roberts was born Dec. 1, 1921, on a farm in Wayne County to Harry and Mary (Grier) Lessman.

She was baptized in February of 1922 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wayne where she was a life-long member.

She graduated from Laurel High School.

Hazel married Don Beckenhauer Aug.16, 1945. To this union two sons were born, Tom and Terry.

Hazel married Eldin B. Roberts Dec.18, 1976. The couple farmed near Wayne.

Pauline Grace Hicks Merrigan, 82

Pauline Grace Hicks Merrigan passed quietly at her home in Phelan, Calif., July 5, 2014.

She was born in Broken Bow Dec 9, 1931, to Grace and Paul Hicks.

She married Louis John Merrigan who preceded her in death by several years.

She is survived by her children, Tim Merrigan, Jim Merrigan, Louis Merrigan and Rita Merrigan; a granddaughter Jolene James Carmain; and a great-grandson, Richard Morrell Beckwith, who recently arrived to carry on the family tree.

She will be missed by all who knew her.

Luessa Wilkinson Burkhartsmeyer, 97

Luessa Wilkinson Burkhartsmeyer passed away June 22, 2014, at Bettendorf,Iowa. Services were at St. Mary's Catholic Church, June 27t with burial at Oakland Cemetery, Sac City, Iowa.

Luessa was born June 23, 1917, to Lyman and Henrietta (Frimel) Wilkinson, in Vernal, Utah. Luessa first attended school in Grand Island, and graduated from high school in Brewster.

She worked in Montana where she met and married Frank Burkhartsmeyer. They lived in Montana, Kingman, Ariz., Hastings, Rapid City, S.D,. and Sac City, Iowa.

Wayne Wilton, 76

Wayne Wilton, 76, of Broken Bow, formerly of Superior, passed away July 8, 2014, at Golden LivingCenter in Broken Bow.

Wayne was born June 19, 1938, at Superior to James and Florence (Fertig) Wilton

Biographical Data: He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his brother, Douglas Wilton, other relatives and friends.

Graveside Services and burial were at Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Monday, July 14, 2014, with Pastor Mark Diehl officiating.

Harold M. Anderson, 86

Harold M Anderson, 86 passed away July 8, 2014, at Westminster, Colo.

Harold was born Sept 26, 1927, to John and Nellie (McGowan) Anderson at Clinic Hospital York.

He lived on a farm southwest of York until he was 15 years old. He then moved to the farm at 1003 Recharge Road until he left for college. He attended Country School #17 and graduated from York High School in 1945 where he played football and was president of the Boosters Club.

After graduating from York High School he enlisted in the Navy and was a member of the decommission crew of the USS Casablanca 1945-1946.

Harry R. Kraus, 90

Harry Kraus was born in Taylor, Jan. 16, 1924, to Vera and Harry “Buck” Kraus.

He graduated from Taylor High School and attended Kearney State College in Kearney.

He joined the Navy and was enrolled in the Navy V12 Program at Iowa State University. He received his commission as an ensign in the Navy Construction Battalion and was deployed to Hawaii, where he served in the yard of public works in Pearl Harbor.

Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Iowa State University, where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1947.

Elma Iola Ingraham, 99

Elma Iola Ingraham, 99, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014, at The Wexford Retirement Community, which had been her home for the last nine years.

She was born Oct. 28, 1914, to Milt and Tressie Williams of Broken Bow.

Elma graduated from Broken Bow High School, where she met Melvin Ingraham.Elma and Melvin were married in 1937 and later moved to Edgemont, S.D., where they raised children Robert, Roberta and Gary.

Following Melvin's retirement from the Burlington Northern railroad, the couple relocated to Loveland, Colo.

Wayne L. Palmer, 61

Wayne L. Palmer was born to Lynn and Mary Katherine Palmer on March 13, 1953, and went home to be with the Lord July 8, 2014, at his home south of Ansley.

Wayne went to kindergarten at Jamesville School between Ansley and Berwyn. He finished grade school in Berwyn and attended the Broken Bow School system where he graduated High School in 1971.
