Hildegard Lindner of Lincoln, formerly of Merna, passed away March 31, 2014, at the Tabitha Care Home in Lincoln. She was the youngest of nine children born to Anton and Franziska (Otradovsky) Hejl in Bremen, Germany. She was born at home Jan. 23, 1928, and resided in Germany until June 1951, when she set sail for the United States.
Harold Jacobsen died March 31, 2014, at Emeritus Memory Care Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Harold, the youngest of six children, was born at home in the Eureka Valley Community May 20, 1938, to John H. and Gladys (Johnson) Jacobsen. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Lower Powell Canyon, and subsequently in 1940, to a farm in the Gates Community. Following grade school there, he graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1957. After spending a few months at farm work, he entered the U.S. Army where he served in the Security/Military Police in Korea.
Alice Elizabeth McMurtrey was born in Omaho, to Dr. George McMurtrey and Margaret Alice (Owen) McMurtrey March 1, 1953. She departed this life April 5 , 2014, at the age of 61 years, 1 month and 4 days, with interment at Kilgore Cemetery in Kilgore.
As a youngster, Alice loved to visit her grandparents, "Hub" ond "G. G." at the McMurtrey ranch
and spent quality time there, where she was known to be an "adventurous little imp," earning this reputation by, at the age of 3 or 4, walking behind the weaned colts that were tied up in
Paul H Scheffler, Jr, 93, died April 8, 2014, at Mt Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Paul H. and Amelia (Schneider) Scheffler.
He was preceded in death by sisters Edna, Florence, Ella and Viola and brother Edward.
Lloyd Hammond, age 73 of Broken Bow, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Sunday, April 6, 2014, in Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Hospice Chaplain Peggy Michael-Rush officiating. Burial was in the Merna Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials to be established for Asera Care Hospice or the Heritage Hall Nursing Home. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
Max Earl Mattox was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Broken Bow to William and Virginia (Apperson) Mattox. He passed away April 2, 2014, at the age of 86.
Max was a man who dearly loved his family and his Lord. His children and grandchildren could tell you stories for hours of things he has done with them and to them.
(Betty) Lenore Craig died March 14, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas, following a short illness. Funeral services were held at John Calvin Presbyterian Church March 18, and interment will be in Marble Falls, Texas. She was 91.
Betty Lenore Fisher was born in 1922, to Betty (Ostrand) and Leander Charles Fisher near Mason City. Later her family moved to Broken Bow, where she graduated high school. She attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught school for three years.Â
Funeral Services for Hazel I. Goings were conducted at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Wednesday, April 9, 2014, with Pastor Linda Knipping-Potts officiating. Interment followed in the Prairie Home Cemetery.
Hazel Irene Goings, 94 years of age, of Bertrand, formerly of Holdrege, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.
Everett Eugene Barnes, the fourth of six children, was born in Broken Bow to Lyle Kermit and MaryAlice (Patterson) Barnes Feb. 21,1942, and passed away March 24, 2014 at the
Melham Hospital in Broken Bow at the age 72.
Everett spent his childhood and teenage years in the Brewster and Dunning areas. He went to grade school in Brewster and later graduated from Dunning High School in 1961. As a young teenager, he drove a fuel truck and also worked at various ranches in the Dunning area.
Regina T. Farvour, age 66, died in her home Friday, March 28, 2014.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Berean Church in Broken Bow. Iverson Memorial Chapel of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Regina was born June 23, 1947.
She is survived by her children, James Chamberlain, DeWayne Thornton and Angel Kasselder; grandchildren, Alexyss Chamberlain, James Chamberlain, Brad Thornton, Andrew Thornton and Christian House, and great-grandchild, Kaylee House.
