Cortez Lewis, 78

September 5, 2013

Cortez Lewis, 78, of Litchfield, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
Services were Friday, Aug. 30, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Hazard, with the Rev. Josh Brown officiating. Burial was in the Litchfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Russell Zutavern, Coy Lewis, Jose Dimas, Nick Killough, Ronnie Sweley and Bob Riessland. Memorials are suggested to the Litchfield Fire Department or Asera Care Hospice of Kearney. Rasmussen Funeral Home in Ravenna was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Parker, 91

Ruth R. Parker, age 91 of Broken Bow, died Aug. 28, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013,at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Jerry Ricketts officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Sargent. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be given to the family to assist with funeral costs.

John Lee, 69

John Richmond Lee was born Oct. 27, 1944, in Valentine, to Marion and Margaret Richmond Lee. He passed away Aug. 17, 2013, at Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln.
John attended grade school at Brownlee and later graduated from Valentine High School. September 26, 1964, John married Kay Anderson in Hastings. To this union three children were born.
John was a lifelong rancher in Cherry County; he loved the outdoors, and was an avid artifact hunter and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Kenneth Kingston, 98

Kenneth D. Kingston passed peacefully in the early morning of Aug. 22, 2013, in Omaha.
Ken, a longtime resident of Columbus, will be eternally remembered for his kind, encouraging words and love for family. He had great pride in each of his five grandchildren. He also shared a strong passion for baseball and the Huskers.
Born in Pender to Ernest and Faye Kingston, Ken served in the US Army during WW II. Wounded, he was decorated with the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for military heroism and achievement.

Maxine Illingworth, 96

Maxine Illingworth, age 96 of Broken Bow, died Aug. 25, 2013, at her home. Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Govier Brothers Mortuary with the Rev. Todd Karges and Chaplain Steve Shanno officiating. Interment was in the West Union Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.

Glenn Alspaugh, 80

August 30, 2013

Glen Wayne Alspaugh, age 80, loved God, family and writing poetry. Glen passed from this life June 19, 2013, at his home with his wife by his side, as a result of a brave battle with cancer.
Glen was born to Lewis and Frances (Varana) Alspaugh May 22, 1933, at the home of his grandparents at Cumro. Glen spent his childhood with his parents and siblings in Custer County on a farm near Callaway. His family moved to Broken Bow in 1941 and spent the World War II years in Broken Bow attending school there.

Clyde Allbright, 83

Claude Wayne Allbright, 83, of Lexington, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013,
at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Claude was born June 28, 1930, near Anselmo, in the Keota Community, to Alpha Morgan and Violet May (Deal) Allbright. Keota is where Claude attended school for eight years. In 1943, the family moved to a place east of Broken Bow. Claude finished the 8th grade there at the Dutchman Valley School.

Paul Page, 76

Paul Page was born to Raymond and Lucile (Campbell) Page July 14, 1937. He grew up in Central City, graduated from high school there, met his wife of 55 years there, and began their family there.
Ronda was born in Grand Island, Joyce in Central City, and after
they moved to Broken Bow, Paula was born. They moved because of Paul's job with Hansen's Appliance as
their appliance repair tech, which later became Staab's Appliance, and he continued working for Bob. During this time, he was a Broken Bow volunteer fireman answering "the call" for fires and emergencies without hesitation.

Charlene Page, 73

August 26, 2013

Charlene Marie Page was born Aug. 21, 1939, at Auburn, to Leo and Donna (Karr) Haith. Charlene’s high school years were spent in Central City. She graduated in 1957, and went to work for the Lincoln Telephone Company in York. During the time Paul kept the highway busy between Central City and York and on June 6,1958, Charlene became Mrs. Paul Page.

Deb Thompson, 55

Deb Thompson, age 55, of Broken Bow, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 at her home near Broken Bow, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Debra June (Anderson) Thompson, most known as Debi or Deb, was born June 16, 1958, weighing in at 4 pounds, having to stay in the hospital until she weighed 5 pounds. Deb was born to Ival and Charlotte (Marshall) Anderson, having two older sisters, later having another sister join the family.
She went to Cumro Country School, later graduating from Ansley High School in 1976.

The 2014 National High School Rodeo is at Rock Springs, Wyo. and runs from July 13-19. As of now...
