Jay Evans. 87

March 25, 2013

Jay. T. Evans, 87, formerly of Berwyn, died Feb. 28, 2013, at the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. Memorial services were Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Masonic Home in Plattsmouth. Roby Funeral Home of Plattsmouth was in charge of arrangements.
Jay Theodore Evans was born May 18, 1925, at Berwyn, to Otto Evans and Ruby (Knapp) Evans. He had one sister, Cleo (Evans) Allen, who preceded him in death.
He attended grade school and high school at Berwyn, and graduated from Berwyn High School. Jay spent most of his life farming and ranching on his property south of Berwyn.

Elvira Bolli, 98

Elvira K. Bolli, 98, of Arcadia, died Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the Valley View Living Center in Ord.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at the United Methodist Church in Arcadia with the Rev. Dr. Jeff D. Hale officiating. Burial will be in the Lee Park Cemetery near Arcadia. Visitation will be one hour before time of service at the church. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Bolli was born July 14, 1914, at Taylor, the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Beals) Johnson.

Charlotte Griebel, 81

Charlotte J. Griebel, 81, of Sargent, died Friday March 8, 2013 at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday March 13 at the United Methodist Church in Sargent with the Rev. Marvin Bauer officiating. Burial will be in the Douglas Grove Cemetery west of Comstock. Visitations will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent is in charge of arrangements

Katherine Manning, 78

Katherine Jane “Kathy†Gilligan Manning, 78, passed peacefully from her earthly home and into the Heavenly realm into the loving arms of Jesus March 6, 2013, at Linden Court in North Platte.
She was born the third child and only daughter to Nick and Hilda (Sauerberg) Gilligan Aug. 29, 1934, on the family farm outside of Milburn that her grandfather homesteaded.
Kathy attended grade school at Milburn by traveling horseback or walking the mile and a half with her older brothers with whom played many practical pranks!

Donald Broyles, 76

Donald R. Broyles, age 76 passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at home surrounded by loved ones.
Don was devoted to his family, work and country. He was born Aug. 26, 1936, and raised on the Broyles Dairy Farm one-half mile east of Broken Bow. He attended Broken Bow schools and enjoyed football.
Don was a U.S. Navy veteran. After leaving the Navy he joined the California Highway patrol, first being assigned to the motorcycle division (CHIPS) where Don pursued his education and rose through the ranks holding many positions and retiring as a captain.

Gary Johnson, 76

Gary Lee Johnson, 76 of Holdrege, formerly of Kearney, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Gary was born to Claude and Marjorie (Crosley) Johnson Aug. 14, 1936, in Mason City.
He attended school in Kearney graduating from Kearney High School with the class of 1954. He pursued his B.A. at Montana State University and graduated with majors in art history, anthropology and Native American Indian studies and went on to obtain a masters degree in human resources at Colorado Technical University.

Alma Sautter, 88

March 21, 2013

Alma M. Sautter, 88, of Central City, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City. Funeral services were Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Central City with the Rev. Paul Blanchard officiating. Interment was in the Central City Cemetery. Alma was born March 28, 1924, in Greeley County to William and Nellie (Dishaw) Cornell. She grew up in Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1944.

Donald Kaelin, 80

Donald E. Kaelin, 80 of Grand Island, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Wedgewood Care Center. Services were Friday, March 8, 2013, at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island, with Dan Naranjo officiating. Burial was at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Kaelin was born at home in Anlsey June 12, 1932, the son of Louis and Elma (Williams) Kaelin.

James "JR" Giles, 72

James Richard Giles, 72, known as "JR" of Thedford, passed away at his home Monday, March 4, 2013.
He was born July 9, 1940 to Grover Stanley (Dode) and Alice Aydelotte Giles on the family farm in rural Cherry County in the hay mow as the roof of the house was being rebuilt that summer. A neighborhood woman served as mid-wife, as there were no roads or doctors.
He was home schooled until 3rd grade, then attended country school until 8th grade. He then attended Mullen High School graduating in May 1957.

Dean Horn, 82

March 21, 2013

M. Dean Horn, 82, of rural Broken Bow, died March 6 at his home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Funeral services will be held at Burr Oak Church Monday, March 11, at 10 a.m. with Pastor David Harder officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Burr Oak Church Vacation Bible School.
