Elizabeth L. ‘Betty’ Lovitt, 87

May 27, 2015

Elizabeth L. “Betty” Lovitt, 87, of Oconto, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Madonna Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

She was born July 22, 1927, at Eddyville, to John “Jack” and Millie (Spellmeyer) Fees. She attended school and graduated from Eddyville High School with the class of 1945. 

Sherry L. Davenport, 75

Sherry L. Davenport, 75, passed away May 19, 2015, at her home near Arnold, surrounded by her family.

She was born Dec. 29, 1939, to Darrel and Freda (Bowers) Hircock at their farm home near Arnold, the second of four children. She
attended elementary school at country schools near Arnold, and was a 1957 graduate of Arnold High School.

Edward P. Erickson, 72

May 20, 2015

Erickson, Edward P., age 72, passed away March 6, 2015, in his home in Kino Bay, Mexico.

Ed was born on Oct. 17, 1942, to parents, Dr. George T. and Minerva (Worthman) Erickson in Broken Bow.

Ed is survived by his daughter, Heather Erickson Cooper, and grandson, William of South Carolina; his daughter, Shannon Anderson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his daughter, Paige Erickson of Omaha; and his sister, Barbara Gibbons of Comstock.

Viola Jane Geiser, 89

Viola Jane Geiser, age 89, passed away May 17, 2015, at Callaway Good Life Center.

She was born Sept. 23, 1925, to George D. and Ethel Maxson Scott at Arnold.

She attended Arnold High School and graduated in 1944. She celebrated her 70th class reunion last year.

December 16, 1945, she married Lyle Geiser at Ansley. They made their home on a farm/ranch northeast of Arnold. In 1982, they moved to Arnold.

George Ernst Sanders, 79

George Ernst Sanders, age 79, of Ansley, died Tuesday May 12, 2015, at Saint Francis Hospital in Grand Island.

Funeral Services were Monday, May 18, in the First Baptist Church in Ansley, with the Rev. Michael Laing officiating. Burial was in the Ansley Cemetery with Military Honors.

George was born April 22, 1936 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Herbert Harvey and
Pauline Katheryn (Diehl) Sanders.

When George was nine-years-old his mother and he moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he attended San Antonio Schools. During the summer he would stay with his father in San Jose, Calif.

Grace Ann Varney, 85

Grace Ann (Ovitz) Varney, 85, of Broken Bow, died May 13, 2015, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.

She was born Sept. 21, 1929, in Whiting, Ind., to Frank and Lucile (Taylor)
Ovitz.

Grace’s early years were spent in Whiting, Ind., graduating from William Woods College in Fulton, Mo. She attended the University
of Nebraska at Lincoln where she met and married Thomas T. Varney III in
Lincoln Nov. 12, 1950.

To this marriage two sons were born. They
moved to Broken Bow shortly afterward, joining Tom’s father and grandfather in the banking and insurance business.

Memorial services remembering Bertini Joyner Talbot will be at the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow Monday, May 18, at 11:30 a.m.

The family would like to invite everyone to join them for a luncheon in the church basement following the services.

Tyler James Vanderheiden, 20

Tyler James Vanderheiden died May 2, 2015, in North Platte, at the age of 20.

Tyler is survived by his parents, Tim and Shannon Vanderheiden; sister, Sydney Vanderheiden; brother, Will Vanderheiden of North Platte; grandparents Derrill and Belinda Larrimore and Doug and Betsy Walker of Jackson, Ala.

He is preceded in death by grandparents, Don and Donna Vanderheiden of Broken Bow; and grandfather, Johnny James of Coffeeville, Ala.

Tyler was born March 28, 1995, in Mobile, Ala.

He graduated from North Platte High School in 2013.

Marion ‘Pooch’ Olson, 79

Marion “Pooch” Olson, age 79, of Anselmo died Monday, April 27, 2015, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.

Funeral services were May 2, 2015, in the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Andrew Black officiating. 

Burial was in the Merna Cemetery with Military Honors. 

Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of the arrangements. 

Memorials are suggested to the Heritage Hall Nursing Home or the Asera Care Hospice.   

Dr. Berl W. Spencer, 79

Dr. Berl W. Spencer, 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather and longtime family physician in Ogallala, went home to his Lord and Savior Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, after a lengthy illness, at the Englewood Meridian Retirement Home of Englewood, Colo.

Berl Warner Spencer was born Jan. 27, 1935, in Broken Bow, the son of Lowell and Ida (Worm) Spencer.

He attended Broken Bow public schools and was in Kindergarten when he first met his future bride, Barbara Thurman.
