Gerald E. Pierson, 86, of Arcadia passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Funeral Services were Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at the Arcadia United Methodist Church. The Reverend Dr. Jeff D. Hale officiated. Burial was in the Arcadia Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Rescue Unit or the Gathering Place.
Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
December 15, 2014, Bertini Joyner Talbot passed away peacefully at Heritage Hall at JMMC where she had lived for the past five years. Those who knew her know firsthand how loving, kind and gracious she was, and she will be sorely missed by so very many people. Her love and grace made her one of a kind and she can now be at peace with her Savior.
Bertini was born April 12, 1909, to parents, Grove Ortello Joyner and Rosella Fodge Joyner in the family home just north of North Park School. She was educated in the Broken Bow school system and also studied at the University of Nebraska.
Berl Klitzman son of Wilbur and Margretta (McClellen) Klitzman was born at home in Ansley, (delivered by his grandmother, Sarah (Eggleston) Klitzman) Aug. 28, 1927.
Berl grew up in Ansley, attending school there and in 1944 began a lifetime of work on the railroad. He worked the area of Alliance to Hazard for 44 years. Berl worked for CB&Q (Chicago Burlington and Quincy) railroad in 1944. CB&Q changed in the 1960â€™s to Burlington Northern. Burlington Northern merged with Santa Fe Railroad in 1989. Berl retired after the merger.
Michael Flynn, age 57, of Blue Hill, died Thursday Dec. 11, 2014, peacefully at his home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating.
Burial was in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Eugene Franklin Thomas, formerly of the Westerville area, passed from this life in Broken Bow, Dec. 9, at the age of 91.
Born March 13, 1923, to Otho Ohio and Cennie (Christen) Thomas, Eugene spent his younger years in the Dale Valley area near Merna, on the family ranch. He attended elementary school at Dale and graduated from Merna High School.
As a young man, he asked a friend to introduce him to a pretty young school teacher, Ruby Darlene McEwen; and on Jan. 12, 1946, they were married in Phillipsburg, Kan.
Wanda N. Jones, age 74 of Lincoln, died Wednesday Dec. 3, 2014.
Born in Broken Bow to Clifford and Waneta (Pritchard) Martin.
Wanda retired from GMAC after 32 years and was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
She loved every moment that she got to spend with her grandchildren and she enjoyed looking after her rose garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and step-father, Dr. Boyd Crable.
She is survived by her husband, Don; sons Jeff (Marlys), and Mike (Tracy); grandchildren, Sean, Sam and Max; her great-grandson; and sister, Shirley (Cecil) Mattox.
Luetta Aleen Wenquist Peterson was born Feb. 5, 1947, to Morris and Pauline Wenquist in Broken Bow. She left for her heavenly home Dec. 7, 2014, at her home in rural Gothenburg from complications of a 16 month battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Luetta grew up in Broken Bow participating in many musical endeavors and graduating with the class of 1965. While in school set met her husband, Jerry, playing cornet in the Southwest Conference Band Clinic. They were married Aug. 31, 1968, in Broken Bow.
Hazel (or as family knew her, Helen) was born as the oldest child Feb. 10, 1917, to Oliver and Nora (Huffman) Forrester. She was born in a sod house in Thomas County, north of Stapleton. She passed from this life at the Callaway Good Life Center Dec. 7, 2014, at the age of 97.
She moved with her parents to Arnold, about 1925, where she joined the Arnold Methodist Church on Easter, 1932, and attended Arnold Public Schools, graduating in 1934.
Beth Rains, age 89 of Broken Bow, passed away Dec. 5, 2014, at the Jennie M. Melham MemorialMedical Center in Broken Bow.
Elizabeth Ann (Leberman) Rains was born June 2, 1925, at Culbertson, the daughter of Rex Hugo Leberman and Eola(Page) Leberman.Â
She attended grade school at Gering, and graduated from Sidney High School in 1943.Â
She soon entered nursesâ€™ training at West Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Scottsbluff, graduating in January 1946.Â
Vernon Lee Souders, age 77, died Nov. 30, 2014, in McMinnville, Ore.
The second son of Vernon and Helen (Kellenbarger) Souders, he was born Dec. 10, 1936, in Merna. His sister was born several years later.
Raised in Ortello Valley south of Anselmo, he attended local rural schools, graduated from Merna High School in 1954, and took his BS in geology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) in 1958.
