Howard A. âJ.R.â Hanson, Jr., 70, of Lexington, passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
Howard was born Jan. 28, 1942, in Tooele, Utah to Howard A., Sr. and Marie W. (Galbraith) Hanson. He was the second of four children.
As a young child his family returned to Lexington where he was raised. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1960.
Kathryn Mannel passed away at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln with her three children at her side. She fought a lengthy illness with grace and dignity and without complaint to the very end.
Kathryn is the daughter of Frank and Ruth Anderson Bartak, and grew up on a farm west of Merna A childhood member of the Cliff Union Church, church activities provided fond memories throughout her life. Kathryn attended Sunflower Country School and graduated from Merna High School.
Martin R. Achterberg, 89, of Lexington, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Park Avenue Estates in Lexington. He was born Feb. 18, 1923, south of Oconto, on the home place to Carl and Ida (Camin) Achterberg.
He attended school at rural District 217. Martin was married to Bonny Estergard April 12, 1956, at First Lutheran Church at Buffalo.
The couple farmed near Oconto until 2006, when they moved to Park Avenue Estates in Lexington. Martin enjoyed his life on the farm, planting the seeds in the spring and harvesting in the fall.
Amy Bundy, age 89 of Broken Bow, formerly of Ansley, died Oct. 3, 2012, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Amy Natalie (Tobin) Bundy was born May 18, 1923, to Amelia (Small) and Walter Tobin at Clarks. As a little girl, and the oldest of four girls in the family, she enjoyed helping her father on the family farm.
She loved the farm life and caring for the animals. She graduated from high school at Hordville. The family then moved to the Comstock - Arcadia area where she met and married Evert Allen Bundy.
Helen Cole, formerly of Merna, died Oct. 1, 2012, at Heritage Hall in
Broken Bow. Funeral services were Thursday, Oct. 4, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Helen was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., one of seven
children born to Joseph and Anna Zubrzycki.
She was very creative with her hands. Her artistic nature came out in the wedding cakes she baked and decorated, quilts she designed and
sewed, and letters written to her grandkids in her beautiful
handwriting. With a loving heart, she created hundreds of sewn,
knitted, and crocheted pieces to give away.
Donald Carroll Hill, 81 of Broken Bow, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. Memorial services were Monday, Oct. 1, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Jim Stark officiating. Inurnment was in the Broken Bow Cemetery, with Govier Brothers Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Don was born Feb. 22, 1931, to Carroll and Madge (Heitz) Hill near Oconto. His early years were spent on the family farm near Oconto. He graduated from Oconto High School in 1948, and from there went to Kearney State College where he received his teaching degree.
Julia D. McQuin, age 69 of Broken Bow, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of the arrangements.
Garry D. "Hoss" Cartwright, age 77 of Omaha, died Oct. 1, 2012, in Omaha.
He was born July 30, 1935, in Grand Island, to Virgil and Edith (Christensen) Cart-wright. Hoss lived in Saipan and worked as a vocation rehabilitation administrator for the Trust Territory of the US. He was also an avid scuba diver.
Shane John Peck was born Nov. 5, 1970, at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha and went to be with the Lord Sept. 19, 2012, at the age of 41, at peace, and set free.
At a young age Shane trusted Christ as his Savior. He was active in his Sonlife youth group, and had fond memories of their mission trips.
Shane spent three years in Seattle and loved that area and in many ways called it home.
Shane loved kids and working in Bible school.
Nancy Vohland, age 74 of Broken Bow, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at her home in Broken Bow.
A memorial service for Nancy will be Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Sharon Ruzicka officiating. A registry book may be signed at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials are suggested to the Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
Nancy Lee Vohland was born Dec. 19, 1937, to CA and Doris (Traphagan) Owen. Nancy grew up in Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1955. She attended Hastings College.
