Bun Talbot, 85

June 17, 2011

Bun Talbot, age 85, of Broken Bow, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Johnson Lake.
Bun Talbot was born April 24, 1926, the third child of Joseph and Vera Talbot. He was born at Berwyn, and attended school at Broken Bow, graduating from Broken Bow High School in 1944. During his high school years he was employed at the Lyric and Bow Theater. He often told us that he was the only 16-year-old who had three suits and a car.

Edith "Doll" Linder, 91

Edith Doris "Doll" Linder, age 91 of Broken Bow, died June 10, 2011, after a long respiratory illness, surrounded by her family and under the loving care of the staff of Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow. Visitation will be Friday, June 17, from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. at Govier Brothers Funeral Home.

Alice Staab, 89

Alice Staab, age 89 of Broken Bow, formerly of the Ansley-Mason City area, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Alice was born on the family farm near Mason City, Dec. 3, 1921. Her parents were Carl and Thea (Waller) Knudson. She attended elementary school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1939 at age 17.

Phyllis Dobesh, 92

Phyllis Burnidene Dobesh, age 92, passed peacefully in her sleep at Saint Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, Wash., Sunday, May 29, 2011.
She was born in Broken Bow, to Ralph and Merle Rusmisell April 23, 1919.

Arland "Pete" Koubek, 84

June 17, 2011

Arland Peter “Pete” Koubek was born June 9, 1927, to Frank James Koubek and Katie Janesosfsky Koubek in Sargent. He departed this life June 6, 2011, in Cozad.
In his youth, the family moved to Arnold, where he worked in the family business, Koubek Lockers. He graduated from Arnold High School in 1946, and served his country during the Korean War.

William F. Baller, 69

June 17, 2011

William Frank Baller, 69, passed away May 24, 2011, at Broken Bow. A family memorial service was held June 5, 2011, at the Baller residence with Pastor Todd Karges officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
William Frank Baller was born Nov. 11, 1941, at North Bend, Ore., to James Frank and Mable M. (Govier) Baller. He gradauated from Marshfield High School in Oregon. He was in the U.S. Navy from July 28, 1959 to Oct. 29, 1968.

Robert Duryea, 83

Robert (Bob) Erwin Duryea, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died June 5, 2011, from congestive heart failure. he was 83-years-old at his passing. Bob will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Robert was born in Dunning, Dec. 26, 1927, to Lorenzo (Dick) Duryea and Verna Mae (Honeywell) Duryea. Bob grew up in Blaine County and graduated from Brewster High School in 1944. he served his country during World War II in the Army, and then returned to the Brewster area.

Cleo Dobesh Hawk, 94

Near the end of WWI, on April 21, 1917, Cleo Gwenivere Dobesh was born, the fourth of 10 children, to Frank Dobesh and Cleo Knapp Dobesh on the family farm 10 miles south of Ansley.
Her elementary schooling was in a one-room schoolhouse at Battle Bend, and high school education at Taylor and at Ansley, graduating in the Ansley High School class of 1935. Her junior and senior years included being a cheerleader for the football team.

Roger Krout, 69

Roger John Krout, 69 of Arnold, passed away June 8, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was born March 22, 1942, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to John (Jack) W. and Ann Mary Gstohl Krout. He grew up in Marathon and Lake Park, Iowa, and graduated from high school in Lake Park.
Roger joined the Army March 5, 1964, and served during the Vietnam War He was honorably discharged March 2, 1966.
Roger was united in marriage to Marla Hall Sheets in 1981, in Arnold. The couple lived in Arnold where he was employed by the Nebraska Department of Roads and later became crew chief.

Gary Kucera, 63

June 17, 2011

Gary Kucera, age 63 of Broken Bow, formerly of Crete, died Friday, June 10, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Graveside services were Tuesday, June 14, at the Wilber Czech Cemetery with the Rev. Lila Bottolfsen officiating. Burial was in the Wilber Czech Cemetery.
Gary was born at Crete, June 29, 1947, to Louis and Gertrude (Cizek) Kucera. He attended school in Crete. Gary worked for several years as a meat cutter.
Gary is survived by his cousin, Connie Anderson of Ayr.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
