Wilma Lee Mattox, 89, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, in Cedar Rapids, lowa. Graveside services were Feb. 27 at Douglas Grove cemetery near Comstock, with Pastor Todd Karges officiating.
Wilma, the daughter of Hugh C. and Lily Virginia (Snyder) Drake, was born Nov.18, 1922, at Mount Washington, Kent. At an early age, she moved with her family to central Nebraska. Wilma grew up on the family farm south of Comstock where she attended Spring Creek School. She graduated from Comstock High School with the class of 1941.
Louis M. Nelson, age 78, of North Platte, passed away March 19, 2012, at Centennial Park Retirement Village.
He was beloved by his immediate family and his extended family, and by his large circle of friends. Louis was born May 26, 1933, in Berwyn, to Ernest and Lillian Nelson.
Paul Raymond Little of Mullen, age 91, passed away March 7, 2012 at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln.
Paul was born in Southern Cherry County Aug. 8, 1920, to Carl and Tennie (Long) Little. He attended grade school in Cherry County and had one year of high school in Mullen. He was an honorary graduate of Mullen High School in 2000.
Paul worked on area ranches until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served his country at Omaha Beach on D-Day and his LCT crew received the Presidential Unit Citation for actions on Omaha Beach that day. In 1946 he was honorably discharged.
Clifford Wilson Christensen, 93, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island. Memorial services March 10, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jay Vetter officiating. Burial was in the Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors provided by the United Veterans Color Guard. Kleine Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Christensen was born Jan. 24, 1919, at Dannevirke to William and Martha Christensen.
Mary Jane Slippy, 75, went to be with her Lord and Savior March 9, 2012.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Jerry Slippy; her children, Jerie (Wade) Detling, Jeff Slippy, Cindy (Bob) Bullen, Scott (Kellie) Slippy; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, as well as her sister, Shirley Clouse.
A memorial service will be Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Christâ€™s Church of Deer Park, 5804 W. Herman Rd, Deer Park, Wash.. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mary Jane to Horizon Hospice, 123 W. Cascade Way, Spokane, WA 99208.
Steven Michael Brandt, 67, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at his home, after a lengthy illness. Steve was born Nov. 22, 1945, to Blanche Livinston in Denver, Colo. he grew up on a farm near Ansley and graduated from Ansley High School in 1965.
After graduation, he moved to Seattle, Wash., and worked for the Boeing Company. In 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After his tour of duty he returned to Seattle and June 20, 1970, he married his wife, Pam.
Terry Ray Golden, age 64, of Broken Bow, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow, after losing his battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 1, 1947, in Broken Bow. After graduating from Broken Bow High School in 1966, he joined the Army. He proudly served his country for three years.
March 20, 1971, he married Martha Shepperd and together they made their home near Broken Bow where they raised their three children. They were 10 days away from their 42nd anniversary.
Marjorie Eleanor Pierce was born March 19, 1922, to Arthur C. and Jennie Marie (Gustafson) Newquist and passed from this life March 11, 2012 at age 89.
Marjorie was born at home on a farm near Sumner and, aside from her college years, she spent her life living in the Sumner area. Marjorie graduated from high school in 1940, and attended Kearney State College to get her teaching certificate. Marjorie taught at a rural school near Sumner and in the Sumner school for seven years and after marrying taught for two more years.
Frank William Glidden, 67, of Taylor, died March 10, 2012, at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow, after a long battle with cancer.
Frankâ€™s wishes were to be cremated. A graveside memorial service was Monday, March 12, 2012, at the Taylor Cemetery in Taylor, with Pastor Alan Petersen officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Taylor Fire Department. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell was in charge of arrangements.
Marjorie Weinman, 91, went to be with the Lord March 6, 2012, at her home in Arnold. Marjorie was born July 3, 1920, to Fay and Jancy (Johnson) Long at their home south of Arnold. She graduated from Arnold High School in 1938.
She attended college in Lincoln at the University of Nebraska and after college she taught school at Prairie View Country School.
