Leona J. Hromas Mulford, 79 of Lincoln, formerly of Broken Bow, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012. Leona was born April 2, 1933, in Martinsville, Mo., to Archie S. and Nina B. (Edwards) Graham.
Leona was retired as an LPN at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln.
June Ellen Fergusen was born in Broken Bow, June 6, 1946. She lived in Brewster and attended a country school and then Brewster High School. She graduated in 1964. June continued her education and attended beauty school in Hastings and graduated in 1965.
June was married to Larry Winberg May 16, 1965. Larry and June moved to St. Joseph, Mo., and were later transferred to Leavenworth, Kan., where they had their first child, Travis, June 28, 1967. The family moved to Lincoln in 1968, where Larry attended barber school and June worked at Lucille Duer Salon.
Charles â€śChuckâ€ť Blakeman, age 86, formerly of Merna, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Charles Horace Blakeman was born to Wallace and Nellie lone (Lang) Blakeman Sept. 5, 1925, at Merna. He grew up on the family farm west of Merna, attending Fairfield Country School. He attended Merna High School until he was a sophomore when he left school to take over the responsibilities on the family farm.
Alfred Creig Giles was the fifth of seven children born to Everett and Ida (Johnston) Giles July 26, 1945, at home in Elsmere. He died May 4, 2012, at the Genoa Community Hospital in Genoa, at the age of 66.
Alfred attended school thru the 4th grade at Elsmere District 101. He completed his grade school education at schools in Lincoln, Halsey and Dunning. His high school education was obtained at Rock County High School in Bassett and Keya Paha High School in Springview.
Hazel Jennings passed away quietly in her sleep at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center April 30, 2012. She was 106 years old.
Hazel was born Feb. 28, 1906, in Lodi, near Oconto. Her parents were Ross and Maude Kitch. She had a brother, Roy, who was two years older than her. When Hazel was 6-months-old, her family moved to a homestead nine miles northwest of Climax. Her father dug wells for a living.
Jan Geiser, age 70, of Merna, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at St. John's in Kearney.
Janice Elaine (Payne) Geiser was born Aug. 26, 1941, at Broken Bow, to Gordon Jesse Payne and Lucille Fern (Cook) Payne. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1960.
August 14, 1960, she was united in maniage to lvan Dale Geiser at Broken Bow. They had four children and farmed and ranched on West Table near Merna, all of their adult lives.
Jan was active in T.O.P.S, Eastern Star, Friendly Circle Club, Red Hat Club, and liked to play cards with a card group that met often.
Violette Nagy, age 99 of Stuart, formerly of Purdum, died May 1, 2012, at the Parkside Manor in Stuart. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the United Church of Christ in Purdum with the Rev. Judy Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Purdum Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements.
Memorial services for Gaylene Louise Young, age 68 of Bastrop, Texas, formerly of the Sargent area, were Monday, April 30, 2012, at the Catholic Church in Sargent.
Born June 24, 1943, in Loup City, to Omer and Maxine Johnson, Gaylene passed unexpectedly in her home April 19, 2012, in Bastrop, Texas with her loving husband Bruce Young as always right by her side.
Janet Finney, age 76 of Merna, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Janet Ruth Pohlreich Finney was born Nov. 27, 1935, at Anselmo to Rudy and Rose (Loughran) Polhreich. She attended Columbia Table grade school and graduated from Merna High School in 1953. She taught school for one year at Farritor School east of Victoria Springs State Park, attended Duchesne College in Omaha for one year, and then St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island for two years graduating in 1957.
Gale Morgan Payton, age 80, of Encampment, Wyo., took his final flight to be with Jesus May 5, 2012, at Encampment, Wyo.
He was born the youngest of nine children Jan 8, 1932, in Callaway. As a youth he grew up on the old N.M. Morgan Homestead, just a half mile north of town. He loved building and flying model airplanes. He attended and graduated from Callaway High School in 1950. He married his wife Lila Chamberlin Dec. 31, 1952, in the Mason City Methodist Church.
