Cecil (Pete) Patterson passed away at 5:20 a.m. April 25, 2011. He was born in a sod house in Custer County June 22, 1925, to Claude and Clara (Lund) Patterson.
Cecil attended Ansley High School and Kearney State College. He was a four-sport athlete in high school and college.
He was married to Kathleen Skeen, and the couple farmed in Custer County for several years. In 1951, they moved to Idaho where they continued to farm.
Phyllis I. McClintock, 90, of Wilmore, Kent., passed away Friday, May 6, 2011. She was a retired cafeteria manager for Jessamine County Public Schools, and a member of The Evangelical Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, the late Fenton and Vesta McEwen of Westerville; two sisters, Phylbert McEwen Scott and Ruby McEwen Thomas; two brothers-in-law, Ed Scott and Bill Dizney.
John E. Petersen, age 87 of Westerville, parted this world May 8, 2011, at the Arbor Manor in Fremont. Funeral services will be Friday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Rolen Sell officiating.
Burial will be in the Westerville Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family greeting friends 6-7 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials have been established to the American Legion Club in Ansley or Arcadia.
Norma Louise (Drake) Cornelison was born Oct. 13, 1920, on a ranch north of Almeria, to James P. and Mary R. (Hess) Drake. She went to meet her Savior May 3, 2011.
She attended school at Knobby Ridge, spending most of her younger adult life in the Taylor-Sargent area. She was active in the Assembly of God church in Taylor where she played the piano. She then moved to Oregon where she met and married Ivan Henry (Hank) Cornelison in 1960.
Shirley Clay Hostetler, 77 of Twin Falls, Idaho, left to be with her Heavenly Father April 18, 2011. Shirley was born to Donald and Violet (Hanneman) Clay Jan. 2, 1934, in Broken Bow.
The family moved to Idaho locating in Twin Falls in March 1940. Shirley attended schools in Twin Falls, Hansen, and Filer graduating from Filer High School in 1952. Shirley also attended Twin Falls Business School, Linkâ€™s Business School in Boise, Idaho, and CSI in Twin Falls.
Robert Allen Lawrence, 84 of Ansley, died April 27, 2011 at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow. Funeral services were Monday May 2, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Mary Jane Gockley officiating. Burial was in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with Military Honors by the US Navy Honor Guard.
Gertrude R. Hickey Kutsch, age 88 of Cozad, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Golden Living Care Center in Cozad.
Gertrude was born Aug. 11, 1922, at York, to Cornelius and Sylvia (Gess) McCarthy. Her early education was at the convent in York. The family moved to Custer County where she completed grade school at District 129. She attended high school at Anselmo.
Mary Jane Mills Cooper was born July 30, 1921, one of the third set of twins born to Rosco C. Mills and Albertina Baker Mills. She lived with her parents, two sisters and three brothers on a farm north of Westerville.
When she was 16-years-old, they moved to California. There she later met Richard Cooper, whom she married in 1941. To this union three children were born: sons, George and Steve, and daughter, Elaine.
Mary passed on to be with her Lord March 22, 2011, at San Diego, Calif.
Robert Rudolph Ruzicka, 81, of Taylor, died April 26, 2011 at his home. The family will have a memorial service Friday, April 29, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Bobâ€™s home in Taylor, with a celebration of his life to follow. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Bob was born June 6, 1929, at Taylor to Emil and Anna (Hulinsky) Ruzicka. He grew up at Taylor and Burwell and attended Burwell Public School.
Dan Lupo, age 73 of Ansley, died April 19, 2011 at his home in Ansley.
Funeral services were April 22, in Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Mel Shepherd officiating. Burial was in the Ansley Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be given to the family.
Danny Dean Lupo was born July 27, 1937, in North Platte, to Sam and Bessie (Ziegenbien) Lupo.
