Mary J. Schmitz, daughter of Charles and Anna (Bamesberger) Mohatt was born May 17, 1918, in Custer County, near Anselmo, the third of nine children. She passed from this life July 13, 2012, at Heritage Hall in Broken Bow, at the age of 94.
Mary spent her childhood in and around Anselmo, and graduated from Anselmo High School in 1935. November 29, 1939, she married Lawrence (Bus) Schmitz of Anselmo at St. Anselmâ€™s Catholic Church in Anselmo. One son and one daughter blesses this union; Gary and Carolyn.
Vivian Ilene Ritz, 74, of Comstock went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, July 17, 2012, at the Valley County Health System Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, at the Wescott Baptist Church in Comstock. The Rev. Don Schauda will officiate. Burial will be in Douglas Grove Cemetery in Comstock. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-4 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Wescott Baptist Church or the Comstock Den. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Viola Pearl (Moninger) Sears was born at Taylor May 6, 1918, to John and Luella (Fales) Moninger, and died June 15, 2012, at the age of 94.
The oldest girl in the family of 11 children, she graduated from Milburn in 1936, and married Hubert Sears of Broken Bow in 1938. They made their home in Seneca, where he worked for Western Public Service.
Their two children were born there, and in 1951, Hubert went to work for Boniville Power Company in Washington. In 1951, they moved to Eugene, Ore., where they retired and continued to live until their death - Hubert in 1991.
Tim Holcomb, 47 of Kearney, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Marion Swick, 73, of Lodgepole, died Friday, June 22, 2012, at Sidney Regional Medical Center Extended Care from Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA).
Memorial services will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2012, in the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with Mark Zalesky officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home. Floyd R. Geiser, 82 of Oakland, formerly of Waterloo, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012, at Valhaven Nursing Home in Valley, with his family by his side. Funeral services were June 29, with Masonic Service conducted by Waterloo Lodge 102 AF & AM, Rod Jobman W.M., at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn. Interment was at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Maxine E. (Arrants) Parks, 85, of Callaway, died Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
She was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Bayard, to John B. and Elsie B. (Fiscus) Arrants. Maxine grew up in Morrill County and attended schools in Angora and Bridgeport.
She was united in marriage to Homer Parks Sept. 22, 1944, at Bridgeport. To this union three children were born; George, Elsie and Katherine.
Lee Glidden, 90, of St. Paul died Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. Leeâ€™s wishes were to be cremated.
A celebration of life service was Tuesday, July 2, at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. Inurnment was in the Dunning Cemetery in Dunning. Memorials are suggested to the familyâ€™s choice.
Lee was born May 28, 1922, in Thomas County, to Frank T. and Iva May (Rarick) Glidden. He grew up on the family homestead in Thomas County, where he attended country school and then graduated from Dunning High School in 1939.
Russell J. Mason of Omaha, died at Immanuel Hospital March 12, 2012, one day after his 83rd birthday.
Russell was born and raised in Anselmo to Harry and Joyce Mason. He married Bonnie Dainton June 18, 1950. They spent most of their 61 years of marriage in Omaha where they raised six children.
Russell was a brick-layer by trade but many will attest to the fact that he could build or fix anything that he laid his hands on. He was an active member of Maplewood United Methodist Church, Keystone Task Force, the Masonic Lodge, and Eastern Star.
D. Lucille Shoemaker, 87 of New Plymouth, Idaho, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, in Boise, Idaho. Mass of Christian Burial was June 25, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fruitland, Idaho, with Fr. Calvin Blankinship officiating. Interment was at Park View Cemetery in New Plymouth.
Lucille was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Merna, to Arthur V. and Ida Brown Rourke. She grew up on the family farm and graduated high school in 1941, and enjoyed returning to Merna just last year for her 70th class reunion.
