Gary W. Story, age 65, of Kearney died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 22, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Rev. Loren Eugene Betz, age 78, formerly of Estes Park, Colo., passed away Aug. 19, 2011, at home in Broken Bow.
Loren was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Broken Bow to Alfred and Ethel Buckner Betz. He attended Broken Bow schools, graduating in 1951. Loren, who was recruited to play football, received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1955. He was a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army from 1956-1958.
August 1, 1960, he married Thelma L. Coffman in Englewood, Colo. To this union three children were born: Lisa, Paula and David.
Patricia Ann Tierney of Falls Church, Virg., passed away May 29, 2011. She was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Omaha, to John and Orah Tierney of Broken Bow, where she was raised until 1934, when the family moved to Scottsbluff.
Luda Myers passed away at Mercy Medical center in Redding, Calif., Aug. 13, 2011, after a brief illness.
Luda is the daughter of pioneer farming family Bill and LaVerna (Wilcher) Bailey of Arnold, who have preceded her in death.
Cleone Maxine Dickey, age 80, of Broken Bow, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Memorial funeral services were Aug. 19, at Saint Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow wass in charge of arrangements.
Gerald "Jerry" L. Parr, 87, died Aug. 20, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Beatrice after a short illness.
Jerry was born October 9, 1923, in Merna, the son of Merle and Della (Cox) Parr. He graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1941.
Survivors are a son, Gerald Dennis and wife, Marlys of Lubbock, Texas; a daughter, Linda Young and her husband, Jerry of New Port Richey, Fla.; a son, Brad and his wife, Kelly of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo.; his sister, Gloria McCarthy, and her husband, Verne of Brookings, S.D.; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Donald R. Hardin, 74 of Arnold, passed away Aug. 11, 2011, at the Callaway Good Samaritan Society Center. He went to be with his Lord after fighting a year-long battle with cancer.
Don was born Dec. 23, 1936, in Arnold, to Homer and Martha (Yeadon) Hardin. He received his education at Arnold Public Schools and graduated in 1954.
He attended Kearney State College with a major in music and a minor in biology. He received his masterâ€™s degree in music education from the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley, Colo.
Daniel Leroy Tinkham was born Nov. 6, 1947, to Donald and Evelyn Woods Tinkham in Loup City. Surrounded by his family, Dan went to be with his Lord and Savior in his heavenly home Aug. 13, 2011, while at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Memorial services were Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the United Methodist Church in Sargent with the Rev. Cliff Reynolds officiating. Rhoad Funeral Home of Sargent assisted the family.
Mildred Maxine Belders, age 91, of Broken Bow died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at the Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Mildred was born Nov. 14, 1919, in Union Valley west of Broken Bow. She was the daughter of Perry F. and Laura Bell (Jenkins) Sloggett. Mildred attended school in Merna, and graduated in the class of 1938.
Mildred worked for United Air Lines of Cheyenne, Wyo. for about two years. In April 1945, she started working for J. M. McDonald Co. at Broken Bow and retired in July 1977. She worked for McDonald Co. for more than 32 years.
Ruby Sheldon, age 93 of Taylor, passed away Aug. 9, 2011, at Off Broadway Apartments in Broken Bow.
Ruby was born March 2, 1918, in Beaver Crossing to John and Elise Wurst. The family later moved to York where they farmed.
After college, she began her teaching career in one-room schoolhouses. She retired from teaching at Sargent Public Schools in the late 1980s.
She met Wilson E. Sheldon in college, and June 2, 1941, they were married at Fairmont. They moved to Loup County where they lived their entire married life. To this union three sons were born; Kenneth, Leroy and Raymond.
