Willda Idell Crone Diefenbaugh was born Sept. 2, 1923, at home in Brown County, Mary, Nebraska. She was the seventh of 12 children born to Evan and Minnie Marie (Blumenthal) Crone.
Willda grew up on the ranch 17 miles north of Brewster and attended Brown County Country School #34, that her Dad built. She attended three years of high school in Brewster and graduated from Dunning High School.
Willda and Junior Neale Diefenbaugh were married June 28, 1944, at the Custer County Courthouse in Broken Bow. To this union were born four children: Michael, Joan, Yvonne, and Debra.
Victor William Watts, 92, went to meet his Lord Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center with his wife of 57 years, Claudia, and his daughters, Lynn and Judith, at his side.
He was born Nov. 20, 1918, at Cumro, one of four sons and one daughter, of William H. and Elizabeth (Cherry) Watts. Vic and Claudia were married Sept. 5, 1953, at Lexington.
Donald Clayton (Sam) Brannan, 91, died at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte Feb. 2,2011. He was born Sept. 11, 1919, at Red Cloud to Clarence and Opal (Eggleston) Brannan.
He went to grade school in southern Cherry County, and one year of high school in Medicine Bow, Wyo. His parents separated when he was 14.
He spent his teen years working on ranches in the Mullen area. Most of the time at the Eck Cox ranch, where he was given the nickname of âSam.â
Don E. Roth, 86 of Arnold, died Jan. 25, 2011, at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg. Donald Everett Roth was born to William and Clara (Erb) Roth in rural Seward County, Jan. 30, 1924. He passed away Jan. 25, 2011.
He attended rural schools in Seward and Custer County through eighth grade. In his early teens, Don was baptized in a Mennonite Church near Broken Bow, where the family attended.
Reid R. Wells, 65 of Ashton, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton, with Father Martin Egging officiating. A light lunch will follow the service at St. Francis Parish Hall in Ashton.
Clarissa Joyce Tucker, age 85 of Broken Bow, died Jan. 30, 2011, at the Jennie Melham Medical Center at Broken Bow. Funeral services were Feb. 2, 2011, at the First Christian Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Dan Rowlison officiating.
Clarissa Joyce (Tvrs) Tucker was born July 18, 1925, in Lincoln, and later adopted by Joseph Paul and Edith May (Nelms) Tvrs. Joyce was raised in the Westerville area, attended Lamphear grade school, and graduated from Westerville High School in 1943.
Wayne W. Lyon, age 82 of Merna, died Jan. 29, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Private family graveside funeral services were Feb. 2, 2011, at the Merna Cemetery in Merna, with the Rev. Dale Coates officiating. Burial was in the Merna Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mort-uary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Merna Fire Department.
Elizabeth âBetteâ Violet Irwin, 89, of Gering, went to be with her Lord Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Northfield Villa Retirement Community in Gering. A Celebration of Life service was held Feb. 1, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Pastor Lauren Ekdahl officiating.
Inurnment took place at Feb. 2, at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Gering. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel. com. Gering Memorial Chapel & Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
Margaret E. Wilcox, age 94, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Heritage Estates in Gering. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Jan. 31, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Fr. Vince Parsons celebrating. Interment was Feb. 1, at St. Maryâs Cemetery near Oconto. Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Prairie Haven Hospice or a charity of your choice. Margaret was born July 29, 1916, in Miller, to Edd and Anna Jones. She graduated from Miller Schools and attended Kearney State College.
Emily A. Jacobsen, age 80 of Merna, died Jan. 25, 2011, at the Custer Care Center at Broken Bow. Memorial services were Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Scott Harvey, Rev. Jim Bull and Rev. Dougg Custer officiating. Inurnment was in the Merna Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.
