Lloyd A. Wells, age 88, of Broken Bow, passed away Nov. 27, 2010, at Golden LivingCenter in Cozad.
Lloyd was born Sept. 16, 1922, to Frank and Mattie Wells.
After graduating from Broken Bow High School, Lloyd lived at home in the Sandhills north of Milburn.
Lloyd being one of seven children, enjoyed ranch life and their new home that his oldest brother, Woodrow, built to replace the sod house where he was born and raised. Lloyd was soon drafted into the army and received his basic training
Ruby Pearl (Peterson) McCandless, 97, of Broken Bow, passed away of natural causes Nov. 29, 2010, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Ruby was born June 7, 1913, in a sod house at Weissert, Custer County, Nebraska, to Milton and Mable (Govier) Peterson. She was the youngest of nine children. She live all of her life in Custer County.
Ruby married Melvin LeRoy (Roy) McCandless Dec. 22, 1932, in Julesburg, Colo. They had four sons, William, Eldon, Terry and Nick; and one daughter, Ardith Joleen.
Gerald Wilber Smith, 73, of Gothenburg, died Nov. 30, 2010, in Gothenburg. He was born Nov. 29, 1937, in Ontario, Ore., son of J. Elton and Edith (Rettig) Smith.
He grew up in Eastern Oregon and attended schools in Durkee and Brogan and graduated from Ontario High.
Jerry served his country in the Army from Dec. 1960 to Nov. 1962.
Jerry married Judith Miller, March 1964, in Reno Nev. Jerry and Judy lived and worked on a ranch in Oregon. They moved to Nebraska in 1972 where Jerry operated a Well Service for almost 25 years.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and horses.
Keith Kermit Blauvelt passed from this life Nov. 28, 2010, at the age of 96 years, 5 months and 5 days at the Pioneer Nursing Home in Mullen where he had resided for the last few years.
Keith was born June 23, 1914, to Leslie Joseph and Adda Ethel (Wood) Blauvelt in a sod house southwest of Thedford on the Blauvelt homestead. he was the forth of five children.
As a young man his family were farmers and he worked with his family and neighbors breaking horses, picking corn and whatever else there was to do to make a living during the â€śdirty thirties.â€ť
Richard D. Parish, age 66, of Broken Bow died Nov. 25, 2010, at his home in Broken Bow. Richard D. Parish was born July 26, 1944, in Fayetteville, Ark., to Everett and Jane (Dickinson) Parish. Richard moved to Broken Bow in 1970. Richard worked at The Lobby, Uncle Ed's and the Broken Bow Elks Lodge.
Richard loved to people watch. He loved to observe those around him. Richard will be remembered for his charming smile and wonderful outlook on life. His sparkling eyes and brilliant smile brightened many a day.
Ronald Paul Kelley USAF (Ret) was born Dec. 14, 1940. He passed away Nov. 28, 2010. He was preceded in death by parents, William and Gladys; brother, Dennis. He is survived by wife Sharon; children, Michelle, Tim, Dawn, Christine, Kristen and Brenda; brothers, Vernon, David, Rick and Terry; sisters, Mary Lou and Carol; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends Dec. 2, 2010, from 6-8 p.m. at Braman Mortuary (Southwest Chapel). Burial will take place at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. Tim DeBauche, age 51, of Merna died Nov. 18, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Tim DeBauche was born May 27, 1959, at Onawa, Iowa, to Thomas and Wilburta (Carroll) DeBauche. He grew up in Moorhead, Iowa.
June 1, 1977, he was married to Sally Winn. The couple farmed at Moorhead, Iowa on the family farm. They lived in various locations before moving to Merna in 1988. Tim farmed and worked at the COOP.
Viola Grieser-Schantz age 90 of Broken Bow died November 21, 2010, at her home in Broken Bow.
Viola was born Jan. 29, 1920, at Chappell, to Calvin and Emma (Boshart) Roth. She attended school in Chappell.
September 24, 1939, Viola was married to Joseph S. Grieser. To this union six children were born: Patricia Glendy (Kyle) of Mountain View, Ark., Myron Grieser (deceased) (Sharon) of California, Earla Oxford (Paul) of Burwell, John Grieser (Connie) of Broken Bow, Donna Schneringer-Gibbs (Gary) of Mountain View, Ark., and Carol Grieser of Mountain View, Ark.
Lois Maurine (Wiberg) Wright was born Jan. 26, 1930, the youngest child of William Daniel Wiberg and Kathryn Stanton Wiberg, in Ord in Valley County. She grew up on a farm in the Mira Valley community south of Ord, where she attended grade school She later moved with her parents into Ord where she attended high school.
Michael Keith Hughes was born Aug. 9, 1949, in Ontario, Ore., to the family of Lyie and Dorothy (Meyers) Hughes. He joined two older sisters, Sherry and Carolyn, and later became big brother to two more sisters, Mary and Judy. Being the only son in a house full of girls led to Mike's advantage because he was always the special one.
Mike passed away Nov. 8, 2010, in Fort Stockton, Texas enroute home to Lockhart, Texas where he has lived for the last 30 years of his life.
