Lucas J. Heusman, 30

Lucas John Heusman was born Nov. 29, 1982, in Lincoln to Timothy and Valarie Heusman.
Lucas grew up in Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High School with the class of 2001. Growing up in Custer County, Lucas participated in Cub Scouts and 4-H. While in high school, Lucas excelled in football, wrestling, and track, lettering multiple times throughout his high school career.
April 13, 2004, Lucas was married to Melissa Walker. To this union two children were born: a daughter, Suzanna, and a son, Jacob.

LeVern Cherry, 80

LeVern Edward Cherry, 80, of North Platte, passed away May 14, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
LeVern was born Oct. 24, 1932, at his parents’ home South of Mason City, to Frank (Pop) and Anna (Supanchick ) Cherry. To this union LeVern was born the fourth of six children; brother, Evert Cherry; sisters, Ethel McAlevy, Helen Young, DeLoris Smith, and Clarrena Overholser.

Clayton Chase, 85

Clayton Harold Chase was born March 13, 1928, in Omaha. He was 3-months- old when he was taken to the Nebraska Children’s Home. His biological mother wanted to keep him but as a single mom, knew he needed a good home with parents.
Harold and Kitty Chase of Elsmere, received word that a baby was available for adoption. In 1928, Kitty road on a truck with Miriam Clark to Omaha, to bring Clayton back to Elsmere and make his home with them. Clayton attended country school in Elsmere. He attended two years of high school at Purdum, then finished at Ainsworth High School.

Evelyn Barker, 81

Evelyn Ann Barker, age 81 of Arcadia, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at the Jennie Melham Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Evelyn Ann Barker was born April 5, 1932 at Jasper, Minn., to Lloyd and Elva (Boland) Engebretson.

Karen L. Shea, 31

Karen Luann Shea was called home to the Lord Sunday, May 5, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Karen was born Sept. 17, 1981, to Louis Baumann and Alice Lucas. She graduated from Broken Bow High School in 2000. She graduated Suma Cum Laude from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and Mary Lanning School of Radiologic Technology in Hastings, with a degree in Radiography. She also earned a degree in Diagnostic Sonography from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Clyde "Tyke" Arnold, 76

Clyde Calvin “Tyke” Arnold, age 76 of Broken Bow, died Friday, May 3, 2013, at Bryan LGH in Lincoln.
Tyke was born Aug. 16, 1936, in Broken Bow to Clyde Arthur and Vava Aleida (Condron) Arnold. He grew up and attended school in Broken Bow, graduating in 1954, where he excelled at football, basketball, and track. In 1984, he was inducted into the Broken Bow Athletic Hall of Fame, an honor he really appreciated. Tyke attended college at University of Nebraska Lincoln, HastingsCollege and Kearney State College.

Addie Lou Turner & Jimmy R. Turner

Memorial Services for Addie Lou “Smets” Turner, and her son, Jimmy R. Turner, will be Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Round Valley Cemetery in Custer County at 2 p.m.
Addie was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Berwyn, and died March 6, 2013 in Lincoln.
Jimmy was born Feb. 2, 1940, in Scottsbluff, and died July 3, 2012, in Porterville, Calif.
Survivors include a son/brother, John Turner and his wife Sheila of Ogallala; daughter/sister, Judy and husband Dave McReynolds of Ashland; daughter/sister, Joy Kokes of Lincoln; three granddaughters/nieces; and five great-grandchildren/ nieces/nephew.

Naomi Hothem, 81

Funeral Celebration of Life service for Naomi Marie (Williams) Hothem, 81, of Sumner, will be Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Sumner – East Campus with Pastor Ken Hutson officiating. Pastor Stan Murdoch will share his memories.
Visitation will be Friday, May 3, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the United Church of Sumner-East Campus. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery at Sumner.

Norma Hagadorn, 87

Norma Lee Hagadorn, former long time Broken Bow resident, died in Lincoln, April 28, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
Norma Lee was born July 8, 1925, in Taylor, to Ernest and Della (Parker) Fox. She attended Taylor Public Schools and was active in the arts.

Charles A. Rienks, 78

Charles “Chuck” Alton Rienks, 78, left his earthly home to be with the Lord Monday, April 29, 2013, after a valiant short fight with cancer.
Chuck was born to Richard and Blanche (Holderbaum) Rienks Jan. 27, 1935, in South Bend, Ind.
He was the fourth of seven children in addition to three of Chuck’s aunts and uncles his parents raised as siblings. Chuck would tell stories of having to cut a half gallon of ice cream 10 ways to share on his birthday.
