OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Many preseason prognosticators believed Vanderbilt and Virginia had what it took to reach the College World Series finals again.
That the defending champion Commodores (50-19) returned is testament to their dominant pitching and the steady effort of a veteran group that got every opponent's best shot.
That the Cavaliers (42-23) ended up here is nothing short of a surprise given all the obstacles they had to overcome along the way.
The best-of-three finals start Monday night at TD Ameritrade Park
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Fans at the College World Series are encouraged to text guest services staff at TD Ameritrade Park if they encounter problems near their seats.
For assistance, fans should send a text to 69050. Type "CWS" and, after a space, state the issue and seat location.
Examples of problems guest services want to know about are impaired fans, altercations and abusive language.
Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority President and CEO Roger Dixon said the text system has been tested at several events at the adjacent CenturyLink Center and has proved to be helpful.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska coach Mike Riley says linebacker David Santos and two other players won't return to the Cornhuskers.
Santos had major knee surgery after starting eight games last season and 19 in his career. Riley didn't say in a statement Thursday why Santos wouldn't be back for his senior season.
Riley also says that safety LeRoy Alexander and receiver Jariah Tolbert will transfer.
Alexander was suspended for the entire 2014 season for an undisclosed reason. Tolbert was charged with marijuana possession in June 2014 and again this past April.

Iowa Western Community College shortstop Ryan Merrill, who graduated from Millard West High, went to St. Louis in the 15th round. Bellevue University pitcher Stephan Meyer, from Tucson, Arizona, went to Pittsburgh in the 18th.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Tim Miles has received a 21-percent raise that makes him the first Nebraska basketball coach to be paid $2 million a year.
The school released Miles' new salary on Wednesday, a day after he received a one-year contract extension through the 2019-20 season. Miles was paid $1.65 million in 2013-14.
Miles' pay bump comes after the Cornhuskers slipped to 13-18 last season and lost their final nine games. They had finished fourth in the Big Ten in 2013-14 and went to the NCAA tournament.
