Forty-one area wrestlers walk into the Omaha Qwest Center today for the opening rounds of the State Wrestling Tournament.
February 16th
WAYNE -- Wayne State College head football coach Dan McLaughlin announced today that 16 student athletes have signed national letters of intent and/or written offers of admission and financial aid to attend Wayne State College and continue their football careers with the Wildcats. The 2011 recruiting class includes 14 high school recruits and two transfers. Seven of the 14 high school signees are from Nebraska with two more from Iowa.

BROKEN BOW -- While the basketball season ended for eight area teams, three teams advance to the subdistrict finals, just two wins away from the State Tournament.
The Ansley Lady Warriors advanced to the D2-8 subdistrict final with a 59-39 win over Arcadia Tuesday night. The Lady Warriors will play North Loup-Scotia who was a 49-40 winner over Sargent.
The Mullen Lady Broncos will play Cody-Kilgore Thursday night for the D2-12 subdistrict title. The Lady Broncos were 61-23 winners over South Platte while Cody-Kilgore defeated Hyannis 42-17.

COZAD -- The Broken Bow Lady Indians scored back-to-back baskets within nine seconds to break open a 32-32 tie game with less than two minutes remaining in the game. The Lady Indians held on to win 38-33 and advance to the Class C1-11 subdistrict semifinals against top seed, Hershey tonight at 6 p.m. in Lexington. The second game in the C1-11 subdistrict will pair Southern Valley against Cozad.

The Litchfield Trojans became the 2011 Loup Valley Conference champions last Friday night. In the boy’s championship game, the Mullen Broncos jumped out to an early 15-10 first quarter lead but the Litchfield Trojans took over the lead in the second quarter to lead 24-21 at halftime.
The Mullen Lady Broncos became the 2011 Loup Valley Conference champions last Friday night. The Lady Broncos edged the Ansley Lady Warriors 53-52 for the girl’s championship while the Trojans held on for a 53-45 win over the Mullen Broncos for the boy’s championship.
