Davis earns National All-American honors

The AAU Middle School National Wrestling Duals were held at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa April 9-10. Scott Davis competed for the Nebraska team (team Huskerland) in the 250 lb. weight class. Davis’s individual dual record of 5 wins and 3 losses qualified him for All-American honors. The tournament consisted of 34 teams from 15 states, the Huskerland team was the winner of the Copper Division. Davis earned his spot on the team by winning the AAU Nebraska State Tournament held in Hastings last March.

Broncos win Knight Golf Invite

THEDFORD -- The Mullen Broncos were the team champions of the Sandhills/ Thedford Knight Golf Invite. The Broncos were led by Jared Spurlin’s 87 and Allan Elliot’s 88. The two golfers placed second and third in the individual standings behind Burwell’s Austin Svoboda.
The home team, Knights, captured second place while South Loup placed third. Both teams also placed two golfers among the Top 10 individual leaders. In the Top 10 for the Knights were Shayne Rodocker and Colton Schroeder. Clint Schneringer and Lane Gascoigne both landed in the Top 10 for the South Loup Bobcats.

Bobcats top field for team title

HERSHEY -- The South Loup Bobcat boys track team claimed the top prize at the Hershey Invite and had two participants set meet records. The Bobcats won the team title with 112.75 points with North Platte St. Patrick’s finishing second with 90 points. Drew Bowers set a new meet record in shot put with a 48-5 throw and Logan Glendy set the new meet record in the 300 meter hurdles with a 41.50 second time. Glendy also won the 110 meter hurdles and place fourth in pole vault.

Coyotes host A-M Quad on Broken Bow surface

BROKEN BOW -- Litchfield’s Hope Downer and Tyler Snow put together two of the top performances in the Anselmo-Merna Quad in Broken Bow last Wednesday. Downer was the event champion in the triple jump, 300 meter hurdles and was on the winning 4x100 relay team. Downer fell five-tenths of a second shy of her fourth gold medal in the 100 meter hurdles when Anselmo-Merna’s Paige Olney beat her to the finish line. Snow was also a three event champion for the Trojans. Snow won the long jump, 100 meter dash and ran the first leg on Litchfield’s winning 4x100 meter relay.

Johnson falls after second playoff hole

The Broken Bow Indian golf team hit the greens again after weather cancelled their previous event. Tanner Johnson fell short by a stroke on the second playoff hole to finish second at the Holdrege Invite Tuesday. As a team the Indians placed eighth. Last week the Indians placed seventh at the Gothenburg Invite with Johnson scoring an 82 putting him among the Top 10 individuals.

Indians win first team title of season

GIBBON -- The Broken Bow Indian track team had their best outing of the season as the boys won the Gibbon Invite last Thursday. The Indians, who scored 122.5 points, finished 22.5 points ahead of second place St. Paul. The Lady Indians finished in fourth place, just four points from second place Wood River. Shelton won the girls division with 109 points.
Broken Bow’s only gold medalist of the day was Nathan Scott who won the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Scott also won two second place medals as a member of the 400 and 1600 meter relay teams.

April 22nd

Lady Warriors win Overton Invite, Sargent boys finish close second

Ansley, Loup County and Sargent were back in action on Tuesday joining SEM at the Overton Invite. The Lady Warriors won the team title with Sargent and SEM finishing third and fourth. In the boys division, Sargent finished second by four points to team champion Axtell with SEM finishing third.

April 21st

Indians travel to Minden Invite

April 21, 2011

MINDEN -- The Broken Bow boys and girls traveled to Minden last Tuesday. The boys team finished fourth behind team champion Hastings Adam Central, Holdrege and Cozad.
Broken Bow’s Patrick Wright and Cody Dierking continue to lead the Indians in the distance races. Wright placed second in the 1600 meter run and third in the 3200 meter run while Dierking placed fourth in both events.

Athletes return to track after weather delays meets

BURWELL - Many area teams returned to the asphalt oval after rain and snow postponed events that were scheduled last week. Among the meets that were postponed was the Burwell Invite which was moved to this past Monday. Five of the six area teams originally scheduled to participate braved cool, wet conditions with the home team Burwell sweeping the boys and girls team titles. In the boys division, Sargent finished second to Burwell followed by Ansley and Anselmo-Merna in third and fourth. Arcadia placed sixth with Loup County and Sandhills/Thedford tieing for seventh.

Bulldogs win by half a point

BASSETT -- The Sargent boys track team won the North Central Invite by the narrowest of margins. The Bulldogs scored 100 points to West Holt’s 99.5.
Jed Fenske led Sargent with gold medals in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Tyke Kozeal also won a gold medal in discus for the Bulldogs.
The Lady Bulldogs finished fourth in the team standings. Rebecca Davenport medaled in four events winning the gold medal in the triple jump.
