BROKEN BOW - - The Ansley Lady Warriors used a 14-point second quarter to carry them to a 48-29 win over Sandhills/Thedford and in the process claimed the Loup Valley Conference championship at Broken Bow High School Monday night
Entering the game, the match-up in the paint between Ansley's 5'11" center Kathleen Ryan and Sandhills/Thedford's 5'10â€ť Shelby Saner was going to prove intriguing; Ryan won the battle in the first quarter.
Twin Loup 48
BROKEN BOW - - Twin Loup flexed their defensive muscle and dropped Sandhills/Thedford 48-39 to clinch the Loup County Valley Conference championship Monday night at Broken Bow High School Monday night.
The Wolves and Knights battled evenly for the first three minutes, then two players emerged to give the Wolves momentum.
Ryan Mosier and Brandon hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers late in the first quarter and put Twin Loup up 16-8 after one quarter.
The NSAA released the 2012-2013 football schedules. For the first time in recent memory the Indians will compete with Ord for a district title. The Indians open their 2012 at home against Ogallala. Also, there will only be four D2 school competing in the area. With the co-op between Ansley/Litchfield and Twin Loup (Loup County/Sargent) they move up to D1. Anselmo-Merna, Mullen, Sandhills/Thedford and SEM. (S/T dropped down from D1 to D2) will play at the D2 level. Area games of interest include Twin Loup vs. South Loup, Mullen vs. Sandhills/Thedford, SEM vs.

BROKEN BOW - - Valentine used tough defense to put away Broken Bow 42-30 this past Saturday.
The match-up was close in the first quarter with Valentine barely outscoring Broken Bow 9-8.
It was in the second quarter when the Valentine defense flexed their muscle and held the Lady Indians to only two points and Valentine would take a 16-10 lead into halftime.
The Lady Indians were able to snap out of their offensive funk in the third quarter and scored six points.
THEDFORD - - Sandhills/Thedford showed their offensive power in an 81-18 pasting of Hyannis last week.
The Longhorns didn't know what hit them.
The Knights quickly jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead before the Longhorns hit a point.
The Knights would keep the pressure on the Longhorns throughout the first quarter and would take a 21-7 lead into the second quarter.
From there the Knights continued to push the floor and wear out the Longhorns.
S/T outscored Hyannis 22-5 in the second quarter and would take a 43-12 lead into halftime.
MULLEN - - This past Saturday the Anselmo-Merna, Mullen, Sandhills/Thedford and SEM wrestling teams competed at the Mullen Invitational.
Plainview won the team title with a score of 189.50, but Mullen and Sandhills/Thedford were right behind.
Mullen placed third with a score of 122.00 and Sandhills/Thedford placed fourth with a score of 91.00.
SEM placed twelfth with a score of 30.00 and Anselmo-Merna was right behind with a score of 27.00.
Multiple area wrestlers advanced to the championship match in their respective weight class.
ANSLEY--It was announced last year Ansley and Litchfield would co-op in all sports beginning with boys basketball this winter.
However, it was decided to co-op the rest of activities starting fall of 2012. Currently Litchfield and Ansley play together for the boyâ€™s basketball team, but their girlâ€™s team remains separate.
Talk about an awkward situation when the Ansley and Litchfield girlsâ€™ basketball teams met last week, but a game was still to be played.
Twin Loup 41
SARGENT - - Twin Loup and Anselmo-Merna met in a pivotal Loup Valley Conference match-up that ultimately went to Twin Loup by a score of 41-33
Anselmo-Merna started off fast and outscored the Wolves 12-10 in the first quarter.
However, the second quarter wasn't anything like the first quarter. Both teams struggled to find the basket and the Coyotes scored three points compared to the Wolves two points and the Coyotes would take a 15-12 lead into halftime.
The difference in the game was the third quarter.
BRADY--The Anselmo-Merna Coyotes placed third at the Brady Invitational last weekend.
In the consolation match, A-M was matched up with the Crawford Rams and prevailed 49-25.
The Coyotes started the second quarter with a bang and led 18-6 after one quarter of action.
The Coyotes continued to out-work the Rams in the second quarter, outscoring the Rams 13-8, taking a 31-14 lead into the half.
