Volleyball: Ansley-Litchfield takes out South Loup in straight sets

Ansley-Litchfield continued its dominance in the Loup Valley Conference Friday night, taking out the South Loup Bobcats 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-12). South Loup had a 19-13 lead at one point in the first set, but a Spartan timeout helped turn the tide and they never looked back. Volleyball: Ansley-Litchfield outlasts Cedar Valley

The Spartans of Ansley-Litchfield continued their impressive season, outlasting Cedar Valley in four sets and moving their record to 15-1 Thursday night.

They lost the first set 22-25, but then bounced back to win the next three sets 25-23, 25-15, 25-7.

Lindsy Siegel and Shawna Paitz finished the match with 11 and 10 kill aces respectively. Kaitlin Kratzer, Taylor Pickar and Jessica Bristol finished with four each and Kayla Reynolds added one.

Reynolds and Kratzer did a solid job of setting up their teammates with 15 and 13 assists respectively.

Volleyball: Holdredge defeats Broken Bow in straight sets.

Holdredge topped Broken Bow Thursday night in three sets, winning 25-22, 25-17, 25-14. Video footage will be added to this story in the next day or two and stats will be added when they become available. Also, be sure to check out the next edition of the Custer County Chief for further details

Mullen wins Brady tournament, South Loup earns win

South Loup
South Loup finished the Brady tournament 1-2, moving their record to 4-8 on the season.
They won the first match 2-0 against Stapleton McPherson County before dropping a 2-1 decision to Wauneta-Palisade and a 2-0 match to Eustis-Farnam.
South Loup topped SMC 25-15, 25-17 in the first match with Sierra Monroe leading the way offensively.
Monroe finished with three kills and had plenty of help around her. Jordan Rush and Shayla Dockweiler finished with two kills each.
Alex Weinman, Jenna Hoesel and Taylor Geiser each had one on the match.

Broken Bow beats Ravenna, goes 2-2 at Sutherland.

Broken Bow picked up its third straight victory Thursday night with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-15) win over Ravenna Thursday night. It was their second straight victory over Ravenna this week after downing them 2-1 in the previous matchup.
The Indians took control right away and didn't let up, particularly in the second set. Broken Bow jumped out to a 12-2 lead before siding out.
Halie Jones and Julia Loy lead the way offensively for the Indians, recording 10 and six kills respectively.
Jones finished with 13 digs and Loy chipped in eight.

Anselmo-Merna hosts Sandhills/Thedford, Twin Loup In Triangular

MERNA -- Sandhills/Thedford went 1-1 in a triangular with Anselmo-Merna and Twin Loup Tuesday night.

They topped the host Coyotes 2-0 (25-10, 25-15). Kelsey Higgins and Chantelle Milleson powered the Knights offensively, recording four and three kills respectively. Madison Taylor and Avery Taylor finished with two each and Jacy Spencer and Taylor Marten had one.

Madison Taylor also had four blocks on the match.

Sarah Miles dug out 12 balls, but she had plenty of help in that department. Taylor Marten finished with six and Shaina Simonson had five while Higgins chipped in four.

Twin Loup falls to Palmer in back and forth battle

Twin Loup and Palmer faced off for the first time ever Friday night and Palmer came up with the 39-38 victory. Stats and details will be provided in the Sept. 27 edition of the Custer County Chief. Video highlights will be available within the next couple days as well.

Broken Bow volleyball beats Ravenna in straight sets, win streak at three

Playing together as a team and with unity has been a big key to the success as of late.

Put me in Coach: NFL would be fine without a kneel down.

This past Sunday, the Bucaneers and Giants made waves when first-year head coach of the Bucaneers Greg Schiano (formerly the coach at Rutgers) had his defense knock the offensive line back into Eli Manning when he was taking a knee, setting off the volcano that resides in Tom Coughlin's belly.

So they griped during the handshake and Coughlin sneered and Schiano stood his ground, saying that he was simply instructing his players to play until the final whistle.
