Broken Bow tops Gothenburg in Instant Classic

GOTHENBURG -- After Gothenburg's 21-20 triple-overtime victory last season, it was Broken Bow's turn to break the Swedes hearts on their home field. A late goal line stop by Grayson Minnick and and an interception by Jordan Lemburg helped Broken Bow seal a 15-14 victory to move to 2-0 on the season.
After a scoreless first quarter by both teams, the Indians opened the scoring in the second with a one-yard run by full back Jeremy Christner. Quarterback Marcus Miller then completed  a pass to Christner for a two point conversion to push the lead to 8-0.

Ansley-Litchfield wins 2012 Seven Valleys Tournament

The Co-op keeps paying dividends for Ansley-Litchfield. The Spartans stayed undefeated on the season and moved all the way through the Seven Valleys tournament, beating Twin Loup in the final game.

Just like the last time last time these two teams bet in the Twin Loup Triangular, they went to a third set that ended with a the Spartans pulling away to win in the final few points.

Overton beats South Loup on Homecoming night

South Loup didn't have quite the homecoming ending they were hoping for. A banged up Bobcat team ran a large amount of running plays. South Loup went into the half down 16-14. Overton ran away with the game in the second half, winning 28-14. For more details, check out the next edition of the Custer County Chief.

Arcadia dominates Santee

September 7, 2012

Arcadia coach Drew Carlton moved a lot of pieces around in the Huskie's 65-12 victory over Santee, but there were a couple things that were concrete.

Fullback Robbie Ritz and halfback Cameron Charles can carry the load on offense.

Ritz scored three touchdowns and Charles finished with one, but had two called back because of holding penalties.

Zach Lueck and Jonathon Brock also each added a touchdown.

Ansley-Litchfield VB stays undefeated with win over Elm Creek

The Spartans moved to 3-0 on the season Friday night, defeating Elm Creek 3-2 in an intense battle.

Lindsey Siegel and Shawna Paitz lead the way with 11 and eight kills respectively. The Spartans were strong at the net as Seigel and Kayla Reynolds had five blocks each. Siegel also had two aces to go with two aces by Kaitlin Kratzer.

Elm Creek took the first game 25-20 before the Spartans answered with a 25-17 win. The two teams split again at 23-25 and 25-15 before Ansley won the fifth game 15-8.

Sandhills/Thedford Volleyball defeats North Central

The Knights got their volleyball season off to a successful start tonight, defeating North Central in three games. They took the first game 25-14, the second game 25-20 and the third 25-13.

Kelsey Higgins lead the way with 8 kills on the night to go with her 15 assists, three digs and a serving ace. Chantelle Milleson recorded seven kills on the night.

Jay Spencer finished with three kills one assist, four digs and four serve aces. Taylor Marten and Madison Taylor each had four kills and one block. Marten had four digs to go with Taylor's two.

Mullen downs Twin Loup in close game

September 1, 2012

The Broncos (1-0) got their season off to a hot start Friday night with a narrow win over the Wolves of Twin Loup (1-1) at home.

Quarterback Riley Rice completed 14 of his 21 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns for Mullen. Tye Spies had impressive night on the receiving end, hauling in eight for 125 yards and catching both of the touchdown passes from Rice.

Running back Britt McIntosh added a touchdown in the second quarter with a 57-yard touchdown run.

Defensively for the Broncos, Garrett Cox and Kory Phillips lead the way with 12 and 11 tackles respectively.

Broken Bow gets convincing win in season opener

Broken Bow (1-0) used a bevy of running backs Friday night as they outworked Ogallala (0-2) for a convincing 28-6 victory.

Hunter Campbell had an impressive night in the secondary coming up with two interceptions- one on Ogallala's first drive of a game and another to halt a drive in which the black and orange were nearing the end zone.
