On June 6, the Broken Bow senior baseball team finished off their season sweep of Cozad, winning 12-8 after beating them 6-2 in the first matchup of the season.
They trailed 8-5 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning, where they broke the game open with a seven-run showing.
Hunter Campbell and Josey Evans powered the Indians at the plate. Campbell went 2-3 with a single and a double with an RBI and scoring two runs himself. Evans reached base three times in his four plate appearances with three singles. He had two RBIs and also scored twice.
The Broken Bow junior baseball team rebounded from two straight losses with an 18-2 win against Overton June 8 in the Holdrege junior tournament. They opened the tournament with an 11-4 loss to Kearney. On June 6, Broken Bow fell to Cozad 16-2.
Against Overton Broken Bow put the game away in the third inning, scoring 15 runs. Hunter Minnick was the leading RBI man, driving in three as he went 2-3 from the plate with a single and double. Josey Evans, Travis Kleeb, Josh Jacobsen and Noel Chapin each added two singles.
The Broken Bow junior baseball team faced a tough opponent in Cozad Saturday night and came up short, but the score of 14-7.
Taylor Shea lead the team in RBIs with three as he went 3-3 from the plate. Josey Evans had one RBI as he went 0-5 from the plate. Travis Kleeb had a very productive day for the Indians, scoring twice and going 4-5 from the plate.
Hunter Minnick went 2-4 and Trevor Scott finished at 1-3.
Evans, Tommy McCormick, Shea, Mitch Burnett and Josh Jacobsen all crossed the plate once.
Broken Bow fought through windy, chilly conditions and came up just short Friday night against Gothenburg, losing 7-6.
The Indians were able to get runners on first and 2nd in the bottom of the 7th trailing 7-6, but the game ended with Gothenberg nabbing Seth Quackenbush trying to steal third base.
Broken Bow held a 4-2 lead throughout most of the game, but Gothenburg broke the game open in the top of the 6th inning, scoring four runs to go up 7-5. Broken Bow managed to get one around in the bottom of the 7th, but it wasn't enough.
St. Paul picked up the win at home, topping the Broken Bow seniors 12-6 Wednesday night.
Jake McCormick had three singles in the game to go with two RBI's. Hunter Campbell went 2-4 at the plate and scored two runs. Seth Quackenbush recorded an RBI single as part of a 2-4 performance.
McCormick had a good outing on the mound in his three innings of work, striking out one while allowing no runs and no walks. Preston Sanchez relieved McCormick after three innings and gave up three runs one hit, three walks and Broken Bow had three errors.
The Broken Bow juniors dropped their third straight game Wednesday night, dropping a close game to St. Paul 11-9.
Taylor Shea went 2-3 at the plate with two RBI's and scored a run in the loss. Josey Evans was another bright spot for the offense, going 2-2 with an RBI and reaching base three more times on three walks. Hunter Minnick had one RBI, going 1-1 and walking three times. Travis Kleeb had two hits in his five plate appearances.
The St. Paul pitching staff surrendered nine walks while striking out six.
The Broken Bow Spirit senior softball team got their season off to a good start, topping Ravenna 10-6 in a game that ended in 6 innings due to time limitations. Broken Bow trailed 6-1 in the 4th inning then was able to piece together some timely hits and were helped out by sloppy Ravenna pitching and fielding.
Hannah Evans picked up the win on the mound and Tressa Ripp provided a does of offense with two base hits.
Ravenna surrendered 15 walks on the game.
The team heads to Lexington for their annual tournament Saturday with games at 8:30 am, 10:00 am and 7:00 pm
