It was quite a week last week in the world of college sports. Overall, it wasn't a very positive one. The biggest story splashed across people's screens was the story of Mike Rice, the Rutgers mens basketball coach, after a video emerged of him shoving, cursing at and throwing balls at his players during a practice this past season. He could also be seen calling them homophobic slurs.
For the first time in recent memory, Broken Bow will not have a senior baseball team this upcoming summer due to lack of numbers.
DYO President Mike Evans came to this executive decision Monday.
While this is a recent decision, the possibility of having a senior team this season was low.
Although there were great hopes that Christensen, one of the team’s top pitchers last season, won’t be ready by the time the season starts due to his injuries from the accident last summer.
The Hastings track meet that Broken Bow was scheduled to compete in at noon today has been cancelled. The North Platte. St. Patrick's Invite (South Loup) has been cancelled. The Stars Relays (Ansley-Litchfield) has been cancelled. Arcadia track had a schedule change from what was in your sports tab. Their first meet is now the South Loup invite April 5 in Arnold. The Wilcox Invite (Twin Loup) has been cancelled. The Hershey Invite (Mullen, Anselmo-Merna, Sandhills/Thedford) has also been cancelled. That means all track events for this weekend have been cancelled.
The track season officially opened today for a few of the area schools. Anselmo-Merna's girls team took 3rd place overall at the Indoor with a total of 38 points. South Loup saw their girls team finish 8th with a total of 19 points and Twin Loup's girls were 16th with a total of 10 points.
On the boys side, South Loup was edged by Bertrand for first place. Bertrand finished with 64 while South Loup had 63. Twin Loup finished 9th with 12 points while Anselmo-Merna's boys team placed 13th with 11 points.
The Sandhills/Thedford girls basketball team saw their season come to an end Thursday when they got into too big of a hole against Falls City Sacred Heart and wound up losing 57-42. With the loss, Sandhills/Thedford finishes the season with a 20-7 record and it wraps up the careers for Taylor Marten and Chantelle Milleson.
