What do you get when running, shooting, riding, swimming and fencing are combined? An Olympic event that dates back to 708 B.C., known as the Pentathlon.
Kyle Smith, 23, will soon be preparing for the initial stages of training for the Modern Pentathlon at the United States Olympic headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo.
A year ago if someone would have told him he was going to be training for the Olympics he would have said, “ That’d be a great fiction story.”

The tournament is in memory of Andrew, who died at the age of 16 after an 18-month battle with cancer. One of his dreams in life was to attend UNL and fish as a member of the Husker Bass Anglers team. Andrew started fishing when he was two years old and became an accomplished and passionate fisherman.
One of Andrew’s wishes to keep his memory alive after he died was for his family to organize and host an annual adult/youth fishing tournament at Merrit Reservoir.

Close to 27,000 runners, joggers, walkers and wheelchair racers gathered for the 115th Boston Marathon ran April 18. One of the 27,000 people adding some local flavor was Broken Bow resident Todd Vleiger.
Vleiger is often asked why he runs. His answer is short and simple: “I just love to run.”
Running is something that’s been a part of the Vleiger family for as long as he can remember.
