Sometimes its better to be lucky than good.
Broken Bow was a mix of both in a 22-14 win over Grand Island Central Catholic Thursday night.
Broken Bow took a 20-0 lead into the half on the strength of two touchdowns from Zac Jones including an 83-yarder at the end of the first quarter and one touchdown from Jeremy Christner.
The Crusaders fought back in the second half with a touchdown drive then a fumble recovery for a touchdown to end the third quarter and cut the score to 20-14.
Sandhills/Thedford senior Kaitlin Marten couldn't get to her parents fast enough.
Moments after Sandhills/Thedford captured the 2013 Sandhills Conference Volleyball title, Marten proved that she still had some energy left in her tank as she bounded up the large carpet steps in Sandhills High School gym into the waiting arms of her parents Adam and Lisa.
It was a long time coming.
Sandhills/Thedford had come so close in Saturday tournaments all season. This time, something finally gave.
