Preliminary election results for local school boards

November 7, 2012

The polls are closed and the ballots are in, but election results are not final ... the following totals for the local school boards do not include provisional, paper or absentee ballots. Write-in votes are not included in these numbers except in Litchfield, where the addition of a write-in candidate may impact the outcome of the elections.

Preliminary local school board results include:

Anselmo-Merna School District 15 : Jason Chandler-445, Joel A. Bartak-406, Kevin Safranek-368, Joyce Christen-322

Constitutional amendments draw lopsided votes

LINCOLN--Nebraskans voted to ensure their right to hunt and fish, but denied state senators an extra term and more pay.

With 60 percent of precincts reporting, all four Nebraska Constitutional amendments looked to be handily decided.

The first amendment on the ballot, the Nebraska Grounds for Impeachment Amendment, was approved by voters at 83 percent. This measure makes any misdemeanor by a candidate running for office grounds for impeachment.

Make your voice heard - VOTE!

The polls will be open Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. MDT). Identification is not required at the polling place, and any type of campaign items - such as buttons, t-shirts and stickers - are not allowed.
Custer County polling places for the 2012 election are as follows:
Mason City Community Building - Algernon/Elk Creek
Arnold Legion Hall - village of Arnold/Arnold rural/ Hayes II
Berwyn Fire Hall - Berwyn
Broken Bow Municipal Building - Broken Bow north/south/northwest/southwest
Merna Community Building - Kilfoil/Cliff

Deadline for insurance program approaching

LINCOLN - The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) is reminding producers the deadline for participating in the federal Pasture Rangeland Forage (PRF) Insurance program for 2013 is Nov. 15.
This program is a risk management product of the federal United States Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency (RMA).

Aurora team wins One Box competition

The 52nd Annual One Box Pheasant Hunt took place in Broken Bow this past weekend, and the 2012 results of the nation’s top pheasant hunt - set in the beauty of the Nebraska Sandhills - are in.

Election 2012: Get out and vote!

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you are aware that elections are next week. While most attention has been focused on the presidential and senatorial campaigns, there are also a few local races of interest in the 2012 election.

Sales Tax Proposed
Two Custer County communities are asking their residents to vote on a proposed sales tax in those towns. Residents of the village of Ansley will vote yes or no to impose a sales and use tax of 1.50 percent, on top of the existing state sales tax.

Electronic take-back programs could save millions

Take-back programs for electronics in Nebraska could save taxpayers almost $2 million and create over 700 new private-sector jobs, according to new projections by The Nebraska Product Stewardship Coalition, an alliance of state and national organizations committed to shifting Nebraska’s waste management system from one focused on government funded waste diversion to one that relies on producer responsibility.

Chase Mandeville, infant

Chase Evans Mandeville, infant son of James and Michelle Mandeville, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at the Wray Community Hospital, Wray, Colo. Survivors include his parents; grandparents, Jack and Tina Mandeville of Imperial, Tom and Robbie Pittman of Ponchatoula, La.; brother, Bryce Mandeville at home in Wray; great-grandparents, Delores Mandeville of Broken Bow, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Lamb of Osceola, Iowa, Elizabeth Lamb of Lucas, Iowa, Evans Blanchard of Metairie, La.; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ronald Edwards, 65

Ronald "Ronnie" Edwards, age 65 of Halsey, died Tuesday Oct. 16, 2012, near Halsey.
Memorial services were Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at the United Church of Christ in Purdum with the Rev. Judy Cook officiating. Memorials have been established to the family. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of the arrangements.
Ronald Claron Edwards was born Dec. 28, 1946, to Donald and Una Edwards in Pueblo. As Ronnie grew up he helped his dad with the haying operation.

Carol Parish, 65

November 2, 2012

Carol Amelia Parish, the second of three children, was born in Phillipsburg, Kan., to Everret and Jane Parish March 12, 1947. She departed this world Oct. 26, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, sister, Virginia; and brother, Richard.
She leaves to mourn her passing her brother-in-law, Frank Townsend, cousin Mark Dickenson and other cousins; many friends at the high rise, and a host of community friends.
