According to the Custer County SheriffÃs Office, the March 28, 2012, plane
crash northwest of the Broken Bow Airport claimed the life of passenger John L Webb, age 48, of Huntsville, Texas. The pilot, Dustin L. Webb, age 33, also of Huntsville survived.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m.
The six-passenger Beech twin engine aircraft is registered out of
Huntsville, and is privately owned. The plane and its occupants were
returning to Texas from North Dakota at the time of the crash.
The FAA has taken over the investigation, so any further questions should
MERNA - - Students at Anselmo-Merna schools were given a first-hand lesson in overcoming adversity last week. Rohan Murphy was the guest speaker at the school March 23.
Murphy is from Long Island, NY and was the keynote speaker in Kearney for the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Associa-tion conference on the same day. The A-M Wrestling Club contributed to the cost of bringing Mr. Murphy to the school.
HALSEY - - The Scott Lookout Tower at the Bessey Ranger District near Halsey has reopened and tours can be scheduled with advanced notification. The Tower, originally built in 1944, is on the Nebraska Historical Register and has been a key tour attraction for visitors on the Bessey Ranger District.
A large crowd gathered to enjoy food and beverages, and congratulate the staff of the Heritage Bank during Business After Hours in Broken Bow March 16.
The bank is now open in its new location on the Custer Campus, behind Mid-Plains Community College Extended Campus. Bank staff greeted visitors and conducted tours during an open house in the new building last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The Broken Bow mens golf team placed 3rd at the North Platte Invite on Friday. The Indians finished only behind Grand Island and North Platte. Junior Tanner Johnson finished 4th overall, shooting a 74. Broken Bow shot a team total of 339.
Megan Smith and Trevor Ritz proudly announce the birth of their son, Chance William Ritz, born Dec. 28, 2011. He weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces and wasa 19 1/2 inches long.
His grandparents are Darcy and Alan Smith of Loup City, Cara Ritz and the late Kelly Ritz of Ashton. Great-grandparents are Ruby Zeigler and the late Denny Zeigler of Broken Bow, Ellen Smith and Gary Smith of Grand Island, Sally Ritz of Grand Island, Richard and Marge Ritz of Ashton, and Gloria Roach and the late Gene Roach of Ashton.
Scott Ambler, along with his parents Don (D.R.) and Aimee Ambler of Mesa, Ariz., would like to introduce his new brother, Glenn Michael Ambler. Glenn was born Feb. 27, 2012. He weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. Grandparents are Don and Vicki Ambler of Chandler, Ariz., and Jim and Glenna Hanson of Tempe, Ariz.
Cacee Miller and Trevor Cox were united in marriage Dec. 10, 2011. The wedding took place in Las Vegas, Nev.
The bride is the daughter of Jim and Carman Miller of Scott City, Kan. The groom is the son of Byron and Connie Cox of Purdum.
Maid of Honor was Addison Beutler, cousin of the bride, Bridesmaid was Bobbi Zimmerman, sister of the groom. Flower girl was McCall Miller, daughter of the couple.
Tyson Cox, brother of the groom was best man, and Guy Miller, brother of the bride, was a groomsman.
Bobbi Cox and Trent Zimmerman were united in marriage Oct. 29, 2011. The wedding took place by the river on the Cox Ranch with Pastor Jay Bessmer officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Byron and Connie Cox of Purdum. The groom is the son of Lex and Nita Zimmerman of Mullen.
