Groundbreaking for new subdivision Tuesday

Indian Hills Meadows LLC and Midwest Housing Initiatives are pleased to join for the ground breaking of Indian Hills Meadows, a new subdivision in Broken Bow, NE on Tuesday, April 8 at 2 p.m. at 17th & Cherokee Lane in Broken Bow. The public is invited to attend.

“Indian Hills Meadows was made possible through a strong local commitment to workforce housing,” said Paula Rhian, Development Director for Excel Development Group which is developing the project.

Doctor returns from Heaven to speak at Arcadia

Dr. Mary Neal, a spinal surgeon from Jackson Hole, Wyo., will be the featured speaker at the 29th Annual Family Banquet in Arcadia Saturday, April 12. Dr. Neal, author of To Heaven and Back, will share, in person, the extraordinary account of her death, Heaven, Angels, and life again following a tragic kayak accident in southern Chile in 1999.

Fashion show for a good cause

Healing Hearts and Families and Kids Kloset and The Kloset of Broken Bow invite everyone to a ‘Spring Parade of Fashion’ Saturday, April 5 at the New Youth Building at the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow. The springtime event begins with a light lunch at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are available at The Kloset, The Kids Kloset, Healing Hearts & Families, the Custer County Chief and at the Broken Bow Chamber. Proceeds from the event will benefit Healing Hearts & Families.

Grow Custer County contest set to begin

April 4, 2014

A new spring season of competition is about to commence in Custer County and the town teams are gearing up for the second Grow Custer County contest.
Towns will vie against each other for improvement points. The community doing the most in volunteerism and image improvements may be able to unseat Ansley, which won the initial county-wide competition last fall.

Everett Barnes, 72

Everett Eugene Barnes, the fourth of six children, was born in Broken Bow to Lyle Kermit and MaryAlice (Patterson) Barnes Feb. 21,1942, and passed away March 24, 2014 at the
Melham Hospital in Broken Bow at the age 72.
Everett spent his childhood and teenage years in the Brewster and Dunning areas. He went to grade school in Brewster and later graduated from Dunning High School in 1961. As a young teenager, he drove a fuel truck and also worked at various ranches in the Dunning area.

Regina Farvour, 66

April 4, 2014

Regina T. Farvour, age 66, died in her home Friday, March 28, 2014.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Berean Church in Broken Bow. Iverson Memorial Chapel of Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Regina was born June 23, 1947.
She is survived by her children, James Chamberlain, DeWayne Thornton and Angel Kasselder; grandchildren, Alexyss Chamberlain, James Chamberlain, Brad Thornton, Andrew Thornton and Christian House, and great-grandchild, Kaylee House.

Mildred Cook, 98

Mildred Irene Cook, age 98, of Broken Bow, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Mildred was born Feb. 21, 1916, in York County, to Christian D. and Ida Mae (Schneller) Hanneman. Mildred grew up in the Ansley area. She graduated from Ansley High School in 1932.

Hildegard Lindner, 86

Hildegard Lindner, age 86 of Lincoln, died Monday March 31, 2014, at the Tabitha Care Home in Lincoln. Funeral Services will be Friday April 4, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary and 5-7 p.m. at the church. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the church.
