Being Prepared

This week, severe weather warnings and alerts were issued across the state. Eastern Nebraska experienced flooding from heavy rain, while hail, high winds, and tornadoes swept across central and western Nebraska.

The recent horrific tornadoes in Oklahoma remind us that natural disasters aren’t just heartbreaking news stories quickly forgotten, but rather are enduring challenges for the impacted families and communities.

Lives are tragically lost; homes, neighborhoods, and communities are destroyed; precious belongings and beloved keepsakes are wiped away.

Honor our Veterans this Memorial Day

It has been an exciting year for Custer County already! From being named one of the best places to live in the US to the announcements of some fantastic community developments. I never stop being in awe of the way our residents as willing to continually invest in the future of our region. Making headlines across the state and beyond has been CobbleStone Hotel & Suites and the One Box Convention Center. What a tremendous addition to the region.

Howdy! Welcome to Horsin’ Around. My wife and I are expectin’ and she’s heading into, what I’m sure she feels, is the best part of being pregnant…the third trimester. I’m sure that she would agree that enduring this part of the pregnancy during the heat of the summer is going to be great fun. Well, maybe she wouldn’t agree with me, but someone has to be positive. Anyway, this got me to thinking about a story that my Granddad used to tell me.

Howdy folks! A couple of days ago I was visiting with some friends and we found ourselves discussing some of the consequences of the East comin' out West.
I know some of ya are probably wandering where I'm going with this, so I will share a story with you.
A couple of years back I was working on a ranch out in Wyoming. It was nestled against a large rim and was a pretty nice place.
A guy from out east decided that just what he needed was a nice, big, Wyoming ranch, and folks, that is just what he bought.

Families across the country are preparing to come together and break bread for another Thanksgiving. And while many gather around the dinner table in the face of great challenges, it’s often these challenges that help us remember our blessings. This Thanksgiving continues a long tradition of celebrating all that has been bestowed upon us, and perhaps for a brief moment, offers a respite from our struggles and tribulations.
In Nebraska, despite some challenges, I believe we have a lot to be thankful for.
