April 8, 2013

By Melissa Garcia
Custer Economic Development Director

It has been an exciting year for Custer County already! From being named one of the best places to live in the US to the announcements of some fantastic community developments. I never stop being in awe of the way our residents as willing to continually invest in the future of our region. Making headlines across the state and beyond has been CobbleStone Hotel & Suites and the One Box Convention Center. What a tremendous addition to the region.

Horsin' Around

March 25, 2013

By NATE WILLIAMS
Chief Reporter

Howdy! Welcome to Horsin’ Around. My wife and I are expectin’ and she’s heading into, what I’m sure she feels, is the best part of being pregnant…the third trimester. I’m sure that she would agree that enduring this part of the pregnancy during the heat of the summer is going to be great fun. Well, maybe she wouldn’t agree with me, but someone has to be positive. Anyway, this got me to thinking about a story that my Granddad used to tell me.

Horsin' Around: When East Comes West

March 8, 2013

By Nate Williams

Howdy folks! A couple of days ago I was visiting with some friends and we found ourselves discussing some of the consequences of the East comin' out West.
I know some of ya are probably wandering where I'm going with this, so I will share a story with you.
A couple of years back I was working on a ranch out in Wyoming. It was nestled against a large rim and was a pretty nice place.
A guy from out east decided that just what he needed was a nice, big, Wyoming ranch, and folks, that is just what he bought.

New Year resolutions

Is it really 2013? Where did 2012 go ... actually when did we cross into the 21st century.
It is kind of funny, as you get older, time passes more quickly. The memories of your children in the their youth and of your own youth come flooding over in technicolor. Cecil B. deMille would be so proud.

It’s Christmas, hold your loved ones tight

December 21, 2012

By Deborah McCaslin, Chief Publisher

This next week is Christmas and I’m still trying to figure where this past year went, much less December. Our children are going to be there, along with the next generation so I couldn’t feel more blessed. Age doesn’t matter, our children are our children.

I learned something this week – something I should have known before but didn’t, and thank Corrinne Peterson, from the Nebraska Municipal Power Pool, for giving a call and providing the necessary educational materials. See, you can teach old dogs new tricks.

By Governor Dave Heineman

Dear Fellow Nebraskans:

In March of 2011, I announced a new partnership to help strengthen Nebraska small businesses and startup enterprises through mentorship. This week, Gallup Chairman and CEO Jim Clifton and I honored nearly 150 entrepreneurs and their mentors from Nebraska at Gallup's Entrepreneur Acceleration System Impact Summit.

Nebraska offers a Thanksgiving of blessings

November 21, 2012

By Mike Johanns
U.S. Senator

Families across the country are preparing to come together and break bread for another Thanksgiving. And while many gather around the dinner table in the face of great challenges, it’s often these challenges that help us remember our blessings. This Thanksgiving continues a long tradition of celebrating all that has been bestowed upon us, and perhaps for a brief moment, offers a respite from our struggles and tribulations.
In Nebraska, despite some challenges, I believe we have a lot to be thankful for.

Acting now to save Medicare

August 22, 2012

By Congressman Adrian Smith

As I have been traveling through Nebraska’s Third District during the August work period, I am reminded about the fiscal situation facing our country. I hear from Nebraskans concerned about the future of Medicare and whether it will continue to be effective in the future.

Dear Fellow Nebraskans:

Every Nebraskan is impacted in some way by this summer's drought. From the brown lawns and watering restrictions to the drought-related wildfires that have burned tens of thousands of acres of land, the hot and dry weather has impacted all citizens and areas of our State.
