Shea shuts the door on Loup City for Bow juniors

Taylor Shea used a strong 6th and 7th inning to close out Loup City Saturday night as Broken Bow took the 5-3 victory.

Broken Bow trailed 3-1 heading into the top of the 6th inning when two costly Loup City errors allowed Broken Bow to take a 5-3 lead.

Shea then recorded strikeouts in four of the last six outs to help Bow secure the victory.

Travis Kleeb got the start on the mound and had a solid outing as well in his five innings of work. He struck out four while walking just one and allowed just two earned runs on five hits.

Spirit 18u victorious over Arcadia

June 23, 2013

The Broken Bow Spirit 18u totaled 13 RBIs in a 17-5 victory over Arcadia Friday night. Lizzie Griffith connected for three singles in all three of her plate appearances and finished the game with one RBI while Kelsie Myers hit a double in her one official plate appearance while walking twice. She finished with two RBI's on the night.

Tressa Ripp finished with two singles while Kassie Russell finished with one and they combined for three RBIs from the the top of the order.

Mental mistakes, errors cost Broken Bow seniors game against Holdrege

Broken Bow committed nine errors and suffered a number of mental lapses as Holdrege was able to cruise to a 20-7 victory over the Indians Wednesday night.

Chad Christensen was the leading RBI man with two as he went 1-2 from the plate with a two-RBI single. Jake McCormick went 2-4 with a single and a double and finished the game with one RBI. Garret Ulmer, Preston Sanchez and Seth Quackenbush also recorded RBIs on the night.

Caleb Dodge and McCormick were the leading run scorers with two each.

Bow juniors top Holdrege

Despite Holdrege jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, Broken Bow rallied back to win 10-6 in six innings.

They tied the game at 2-2 when a Josh Jacobsen sac fly brought home Travis Kleeb. Broken Bow increased their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a sac fly from Tommy McCormick and a passed ball that scored Josey Evans.

An error, RBI double and a sac fly from Holdrege in their half of the third inning put them back in the lead as Broken Bow headed to the bottom of the third inning.

Bow seniors hold off Kearney Little Ceasers rally

The Broken Bow senior team used a five-run fourth inning to beat Kearney Little Ceasers 8-7 Tuesday night.
“We didn’t walk a lot of batters tonight,” Broken Bow coach Ryan McAlexander said. “The defense played really well and we hit the ball. Those three things are always a winning combination.”
Bow trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 4th before getting RBI hits from Hunter Campbell, Caleb Dodge, Jake McCormick and Garret Ulmer.
Josey Evans also got a run across with a sacrifice fly on the inning.

Kearney Five Points uses big 7th inning to top Bow juniors

The Broken Bow juniors played a back and forth game with Kearney Five Points that ended with a big top of 7th inning from Kearney en route to a 10-5 victory.
The Indians trailed just 5-4 heading into the top of the 7th inning before Kearney was able to find the gaps against Taylor Shea, who took over for starter Jake McCormick.
“We faced McCormick the last time we played them, so I’m surprised we didn’t pick up on him sooner, but eventually our kids made the adjustments,” Kearney Coach Jacob Pacheco said. “That’s what we preach, making adjustments.”

Spirit 16u earns victory over Ravenna

The Broken Bow Spirit 16U team notched another win Monday night, defeating Ravenna 10-2.
Ashley Markham kept Ravenna off the board in the first inning as she recorded two strikeouts. Broken Bow then jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Ashley Markham, Jasmyn Brooks and Charmayne Popp.
Ravenna put up one run in the top of the 2nd inning on an RBI single as Markham struck out two more batters.
Brooks continued to swing a hot bat in the bottom of the second, driving in Hanna Lane and Kerri DeGroff on a two RBI- single.

Spirit 18u takes down Ord in dominating fashion

The Broken Bow Spirit 18u team broke the game open in the top of the third inning, pouring in 14 runs on seven hits on the way to a 27-3 victory.
Makenna Brunken got the monstrous inning started with an inside the park home run to deep center field, giving the Spirit a 3-2 lead.
They never looked back.
Brunken is from Burwell and has proved to be a valuable import for the Spirit program so far.

16u Spirit take down 18u counterparts

June 11, 2013

In a battle for town softball bragging rights, the Broken Bow 16u team earned an 8-7 victory over their 18u counterparts.

Jasmyn Brooks cranked three-run home run while Mariah Lane finished with a single and a double while driving in two runners as part of the 16u effort. Kerri DeGroff, Ashley Markham and Jordan Linn also finished the game with RBIs.

Markham, Hanna Lane and DeGroff each finished the game with three singles.

Brooks pitched all six innings played while striking out six, walking six and allowing five earned runs.

Spirit 18u Softball outclasses Burwell.

There was a point in time where Burwell softball was the team to beat. The Broken Bow Spirit 18u has proved that times have changed.

The Spirit 18u dominated Burwell at home 18-2 June 5 to improve their record to 4-2 on the season. The win also marked their second straight.

The sticks came alive for every girl in the Spirit lineup, lead by Katie Kirkpatrick's three RBIs. She drove in all three with a triple while going 1-3 from the plate. Kelsie Myers, Lizzie Griffith, Tressa Ripp and Hannah Evans also drove in one run each.
