Ansley-Litchfied, Anselmo-Merna, Twin Loup get LVC volleyball started

SARGENT -- Twin Loup hosted rival Ansley-Litchfield as well as Anselmo-Merna in the season-opening triangular.

The first game featured Twin Loup and Anselmo-Merna. The Coyotes kept it close before the Wolves pulled away to win the first game 25-19. Alex Hart had two kills and two aces in the first game. She was helped out by junior Becca Clark's three aces. Junior Tristan Kirwan and sophomore Jackie Lewis also had an ace each.

Junior Heather Davis had three kills for the Coyotes in the first game.

Put Me In Coach: Lance Armstrong a victim of his own success

For as long as many of us can remember, Lance Armstrong has dedicated his mind, body and soul to the sport of cycling and not much else.
His Livestrong Foundation, which can be advertised in pretty much every way imaginable has raised over $400 million dollars toward cancer research since its innagural year of 1997.
In the wake of another set of steriod accusations, Armstrong has decided not to fight it any longer
He has been banned from the sport that has literally been his life. Armstrong has also been stripped of his seven Tour De France titles.

Broken Bow golf starts off season at Ainsworth, Minden

The Broken Bow girls golf team opened its season with the Ainsworth Invitational Aug. 23. Junior Kaleigh Page had the lowest score for Broken Bow, finishing 6th overall with a 106.

Johnson competes in Kansas vs. Nebraska Junior Cup

Broken Bow senior Tanner Johnson didn't have the typical high school kid summer. In between his summer job and hanging out with his friends, he managed to fit in a summer full of golf.
Most recently, Johnson competed in the Kansas vs. Nebraska Cup, played earlier this month at the Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhatten, Kan.
This is a "Ryder Cup" style competition that pits each state's top golfers against each other for a team match play.
"It was a great experience," Johnson said. "I was the last one to get picked and I got to play with a lot of division one recruits."

Crunchin’ Action - It’s Demo Derby time!!!

The weather was perfect, the cars sufficiently noisy and the action right on target at the 2012 Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce Demolition Derby.
With over $6,000 in prize money sitting on the table, as well as several two foot tall trophies for bragging rights, the cars appeared.
For Duane Ducker of Broken Bow, this year marks his 32nd running of the Broken Bow Derby at the Custer County Fairgrounds, and his last. He can feel the hits in his back, he said following the end of the Hobo Class. He was passing the keys to his son Preston.

Inaugural Loup 2 Loup deemed success

ARNOLD--There was a hot time heard and seen in the old town of Halsey Aug. 8 and 9, and it wasn’t all from the heat.
Drivers and their cars went through technical and safety inspections at Halsey, Aug. 8, prior to the inaugural race of the Loup 2 Loup Open Road Challenge Aug.9. This race was the prelude to the 12th annual Sandhills Open Road Challenge (SORC) Friday and Saturday in Custer County.
Friday the one-mile shootout race took place between Callaway and Cozad. Then Saturday, the actual race on the county road between Arnold and Dunning was held.

SORC brings muscle power to the Sandhills

ARNOLD--The Sandhills Open Road Challenge brought plenty of muscle power and speed to the Custer County area this past weekend. A new event called the Loup 2 Loup race, where drivers raced from Halsey to Purdum and back was added this year.
A half mile and one-mile shootout took place on Friday and the races continued on Saturday.
The results, starting with the Loup to Loup are as follows:
Target Speed 75 (18:33.600)
1. Thomas Tisthammer/Grant Barclay- 1966 Porsche (Colorado)
2. Nick Eckberg/ Kyle Eckberg- 1965 Corvette- Wakefield

Pomplun uses baseball as life learning tool

Baseball is a game of failure.
This is no secret to anyone who knows the game; who h as been around it as long as Jerry Pomplun has.
Pomplun, who finished his 9th season as Broken Bow’s Legion baseball coach this past summer, chalked up yet another successful season.
In a game full of failures, Broken Bow- the smallest school under the Class B roof,-has seen plenty of successes under Pomplun.
In his nine seasons, Broken Bow has been to the district championship six times, winning three of them.

Bowling meeting Tuesday

A new season of league bowling is set to get underway. A meeting of the local Bowling Association will take place Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, beginning at 7 p.m. at Pleasure Lanes in Broken Bow.
