Football: Broken Bow bounces back against St. Paul

There’s nothing like getting ready for their homecoming game with a win the week before.
Coming off two lopsided losses and with their homecoming battle against Ord on the horizon, Broken Bow went to St. Paul Sept. 28 and came back with a 33-8 victory.
“We were able to control the line on both sides of the ball and wear St.Paul down,” coach Mike Garner said.
The two teams played a scoreless first quarter before Broken Bow opened the scoring in the second.
Running back Nate Evans scored from one yard out and teammates Zac Jones found the end zone from nine yard s away.

Volleyball: Ansley-Litchfield picks up two more wins

Ansley-Litchfield kept their strong season going with two more wins- one over South Loup Sept. 28 and one over Amherst Tuesday night.
Against Amherst, the Spartans took the win in straight sets (25-12, 25-14, 25-11).
Taylor Pickar was 10-10 on kill attempts with seven aces while Lindsy Siegel chipped in eight aces on a 12-13 killing attempt.
Falicia Shepardson had a productive day as well, securing four kill aces on an 8-11 performance.
Kaitlin Kratzer and Kayla Reynolds were on top of their setting game, totaling six and four assists respectively.

Sandhils/Thedford suffers loss at hands of Garden County

With the season nearing its end, the Sandhills/Thedford Knights will have one more chance to get a win after losing to Garden County 58-8.

Quarterback Caden Jameson completed four of his 11 passes for 72 yards, but threw two interceptions during the game.

Tyler Lee finished as the leading rusher for the Knights, running for 50 yards on his 15 carries. Blayne Bradley finished with 12 yards on six carries while Brinnon Schukei had 15 yards on two carries and Jamesonf finished with 39 yards on 13 carries.

Ansley-Litchfield came into the game with two wins by wide margins, but a trip to Arnold sent them back to the drawing board as the Bobcats overpowered the Spartans en route to a 44-6 victory. For further details, check out the next edition of the Custer County Chief.

Volleyball: Ansley-Litchfield takes out South Loup in straight sets

Ansley-Litchfield continued its dominance in the Loup Valley Conference Friday night, taking out the South Loup Bobcats 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-12). South Loup had a 19-13 lead at one point in the first set, but a Spartan timeout helped turn the tide and they never looked back. Volleyball: Ansley-Litchfield outlasts Cedar Valley

The Spartans of Ansley-Litchfield continued their impressive season, outlasting Cedar Valley in four sets and moving their record to 15-1 Thursday night.

They lost the first set 22-25, but then bounced back to win the next three sets 25-23, 25-15, 25-7.

Lindsy Siegel and Shawna Paitz finished the match with 11 and 10 kill aces respectively. Kaitlin Kratzer, Taylor Pickar and Jessica Bristol finished with four each and Kayla Reynolds added one.

Reynolds and Kratzer did a solid job of setting up their teammates with 15 and 13 assists respectively.

Mullen wins Brady tournament, South Loup earns win

South Loup
South Loup finished the Brady tournament 1-2, moving their record to 4-8 on the season.
They won the first match 2-0 against Stapleton McPherson County before dropping a 2-1 decision to Wauneta-Palisade and a 2-0 match to Eustis-Farnam.
South Loup topped SMC 25-15, 25-17 in the first match with Sierra Monroe leading the way offensively.
Monroe finished with three kills and had plenty of help around her. Jordan Rush and Shayla Dockweiler finished with two kills each.
Alex Weinman, Jenna Hoesel and Taylor Geiser each had one on the match.

Broken Bow beats Ravenna, goes 2-2 at Sutherland.

Broken Bow picked up its third straight victory Thursday night with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-15) win over Ravenna Thursday night. It was their second straight victory over Ravenna this week after downing them 2-1 in the previous matchup.
The Indians took control right away and didn't let up, particularly in the second set. Broken Bow jumped out to a 12-2 lead before siding out.
Halie Jones and Julia Loy lead the way offensively for the Indians, recording 10 and six kills respectively.
Jones finished with 13 digs and Loy chipped in eight.
