A rough first inning cost Broken Bow the league championship Monday night. Broken Bow fell to Aurora 15-5 in five innings. Aurora took at 12-0 in the first inning. The Indians outscored them the rest of the way, 5-3, but it wasn't enough. The game was a reschedule from the game on July 12 that was cancelled due to rain.

Their game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and they will take on the winner of Cozad and Shelton/Gibbon.

Broken Bow’s Kelsie Myers recently returned from a mission trip to
Haiti where she worked as a medical helper in a tent that cared for
the needy.
The Spirit were glad to have her back, as Myers gave the team the
right dose of strong hitting they needed to finish a strong second
place in the league tournament.
Spalding ended the team’s run with an 8-3 victory over the Spirit in
the championship game July 7th.
Myers batted 8-14 in the tournament, which is good for a .571 batting average.

Broken Bow tops Kearney Little Ceasers in tournament round robin action

June 30, 2012

Trailing 2-0 for most of the game, Nebraska State Bank Baseball refused to quit and rallied to take the game into extra innings where they would eventually pull away from Kearney and win 6-2.

An RBI-single by Justin McCullough brought the game even at 2-2 in the top of the 7th inning. Kearney Little Ceasers stranded a runner in the bottom of the seventh, opening for Broken Bow to blow the game wide open in the top of the 8th.

This is when right fielder Jake McCormick stepped up and delivered a two-RBI single that put Broken Bow up 4-2 and gave them the lead for good.

7th inning rally propels Spirit past Loup City

June 28, 2012

The Spirit had been in close games before during this season. None of them went as planned.

In their final game of the season at Tomahawk Park, a seventh-inning rally changed all that.

Broken Bow trailed 7-3 entering the final inning and then put their bats to work. Timely hitting by Tressa Ripp, Karly Boje and Jasmyn Brooks helped seal the 8-7 comeback victory for the Spirit.

The game ended on an RBI single from Brooks.

For complete coverage of this game, check out the July 5 edition of the Custer County Chief.

June 28, 2012

A two-RBI single by Jake McCormick followed up by an RBI single from Michael Coleman helped Broken Bow secure the West division title Wednesday night.

Broken Bow held off Holdredge for a 9-4 victory. The victory helped them stay undefeated in league play this season. Their overall record stands at 13-2.

While the winning streak for Broken Bow stands at seven games, coach Jerry Pomplun would like to see some more improvements out of the team, particularly on the offensive side.

Broken Bow overpowers Arcadia in win

June 21, 2012

Arcadia just couldn't catch a break.

Broken Bow's bats were too much to handle Wednesday night as the Spirit overpowered their foes, winning 19-9.

Third basemen Tressa Ripp had another fine offensive outing, tallying three singles and one doubles. She had plenty of help around here. Every batter finished with at least one hit and eight of the nine batters had at least one extra base hit.

"I think we had really good base-running and good hitting," shortstop Sydney Holcomb said. "Hannah and Jasmyn did really well on the mound too."
