Winter Sports Preview: Broken Bow Lady Indians

INDIANS LOOK TO REDEEM LAST YEAR'S WOES
BROKEN BOW -- The Broken Bow Lady Indians return four starters fro last year’s team that finished 4-16.
This year the Lady Indians look for redemption after last year’s disappointing season.
Coach Dave Pruden expects his group of sophomores, who got some valuable experience last year, to follow the leadership of his starters to build strong depth from the bench.
The key for the Lady Indians will be to fix the mental errors that hindered them last season.

HUSKIES RETURN ALL FIVE STARTERS, CHEMISTRY WILL BE KEY TO SUCCESS
ARCADIA -- The Arcadia Huskies will be fortunate to return all five starters from last year’s 4-17 team. That experience will help the Huskies compete in the Loup Valley Conference.
Head coach Bobby Hurlburt says that the toughest challenges for his team will be to develop productive depth off the bench and staying healthy.

LADY HUSKIES RELOAD WITH YOUTH
ARCADIA -- The Arcadia Lady Huskies are young but look to reload with a talented group of underclassmen.
Sapphire Sillivan and Shayla Trotter are returning starters and will be leaders the Lady Huskies in shooting and rebounds.
One of the biggest challenges for second year coach Todd Quick will be to find someone to consistently knock down shots form the perimeter.
For the Lady Huskies to find success this season, they will need to believe in themselves and work hard to improve every day.

WARRIORS MUST STAY HEALTHY TO SUCCEED
ANSLEY -- The Ansley Warriors return four of five starters for a team that was 1-18 last year and will show vast improvements as long as they can stay healthy.
The biggest challenge for the Warriors will be depth so keeping the team healthy and fresh will be key to the success of the team.
Coach Garrod Fernau believes that his team can compete in the conference and sub-districts if they play hard, stay healthy and stay positive.
Seniors Chris Varney, Tobey Slingsby and Jesse Mullen will lead the Warriors with assistance from junior Brody Focken.

STATE, TOP GOALS FOR LADY WARRIORS
ANSLEY -- Last year, the Ansley Lady Warriors came up one game short of reaching the state tournament. This year, the Lady Warriors hope to follow the lead of a very successful volleyball season and reach the state tournament.
The Lady Warriors return all five starters form last years team and have a talanted group of players to come off the bench that saw a significant amount of playing time last year.
Returning as the leading scorers from a year ago are Siera Rohde and Taylor Rohde.

ANSELY/ARCADIA WRESTLERS NEED TO STAY HEALTHY FOR TEAMS SUCCESS
ANSLEY/ARCADIA -- The coop of Ansley and Arcadia wrestlers return five former state qualifiers that will be asked to lead a young freshman class to fill the open weights while losing and maintaining weight.
Returning state qualifiers from last year’s team are seniors Ryan Hircock at 189 pounds and Joe Gregory at 215 pounds along with sophomores Stuart Hircock at 160 pounds and Tommy Roth at 103 pounds.
Also returning is senior Brady Masters at 119 pounds who qualified for state both his freshman and sophomore years.

Winter Sports Preview: Anselmo-Merna Coyotes

COYOTES ARE HIGH ON TALENT, LOW IN NUMBERS
MERNA -- Four of Anslemo-Merna’s six wrestlers are returning state qualifiers from last season.
Seniors Colton Rush and Colten Fales are the senior leaders on the team for head coach Todd Hoyt. Rush will wrestle at 152 pounds and Fales will weigh in at 189 pounds.
Paige Olney returns at 112 pounds and Jake Wells will wrestle at 140 pounds.
Senior Kyle Huhman and sophomore Clinten Fales hope to follow in the footsteps of their teammates and qualify for the state tournament this season. The team goal is to qualify all six to State.

Broncos place eleven wrestlers for team championship at home

MULLEN -- Four LVC teams competed at the Mullen Bronco Invitational Saturday.
Mullen was the team champion at their home event as they claimed four first place medals to lead all teams.
Mullen’s Nick Licking was announced as the Outstanding Wrestler.

YOUNG COYOTES NEED TO FILL VARSITY ROLES AFTER LOSING EIGHT SENIORS
MERNA -- After losing eight seniors from last year’s 12-8 team, the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes look to rebuild a starting core with little varsity action. Juniors Cole Geiser, Joseph Christen and Greggory Christen lead a young group that played together throughout the junior varsity season a year ago.
