Stateside mission - Guard troops sent to Gulf |

 Det. 1 of the National Guard 1074th Transportation Co., based in Broken Bow, left Tuesday morning on a short-term mission to the Gulf Coast region. The troops will assist in recovery efforts following the landfall of Hurricane Gustav in the region. They will join about 13,000 troops from across the U.S. in the recovery project.

Broken Bow’s soldiers left Tuesday to assist with recovery efforts on the Gulf Coast. The region was hit with a Category 2 Hurricane, named Gustav, Sunday. The National Guard Unit, Det. 1 of the 1074th Transportation Co., based in Broken Bow, received orders Sunday to join recovery work in Louisiana. “ A lot of them join to do just this sort of thing, to help their fellow Americans,” said Sgt. Tim McCaslin.
