Local ministers issue Bible reading challenge

    The Broken Bow Ministerial Association is issuing a challenge to each person in the Custer County area - to read through the entire Bible in one year.
    The Custer County Bible Challenge 2009 will begin Jan. 1, and is designed to encourage everyone to read through the Bible in 12 months. The challenge is be primarily administered through each participating church, with local ministers asked to gather a list of names of those church members willing to participate.
    Each person is encouraged to keep track of their own Bible reading, either on-line or on paper. At the end of the year, anyone who has completed the reading for the year will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize.

County board picks new defender

    Custer County’s Board of Supervisors offered a contract for public defender services last week.
    The board selected Mike Borders of Broken Bow, one of four attorneys who had been recommended for the spot.
    The contract, and its details, were not final as of press time Tuesday. The board was set to meet regarding the contract Tuesday at 11:15 a.m.
    The county’s current public defender, Jim Orr, has been appointed to a judgeship in the Eighth Judicial District and will relocate to Valentine.
    In December, the County Board interviewed four candidates recommended by the Public Defender Policy Board.
 
Bow could be wind farm site

    A site near Broken Bow could become the state’s next wind farm by 2010, under proposals being accepted by Nebraska Public Power District.
    Dave Rich, renewable energy development director for NPPD, outlined the process for area residents at a meeting in Broken Bow Monday.

    Rich presented similar information in Petersburg Tuesday, another community tagged as a potential wind farm site.
    “We’re going to try and share what our plans our and answer any questions raised,” Rich told the group of about 50 people in Broken Bow.
