Alice Florene Gould, 89
Florene Gould, 89, of Arcadia passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
A Celebration of her life was Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Floreneâ€™s granddaughter, Chaplin Trish Redding officiated. Burial was in the Arcadia City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Rose Lane Home or Asera Care Hospice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Alice Florene was born Feb. 23, 1923, on the family farm in Custer County, to Albert and Flossie (Marsh) Hunt. She was raised on the farm, attended Knight Country School and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1942.
Following high school, Florene worked in cafes in Grand Island, Loup City and Arcadia. February 29, 1944, Florene was united in marriage to Donald Gould at Loup City. The couple resided on a farm north of Arcadia where Florene assisted with the farm work, raised chickens, milked cows and cared for her husband. In 1966, they moved into Arcadia.
At the age of 40, Florene began working at Becton Dickinson in Broken Bow. When she was 62 she retired and babysat for Eric Sell and Kendell and Kyle Kusek. Mr. Gould passed away March 27, 2003. Florene moved to the Manor in Arcadia and since January 2008, she has resided at Rose Lane in Loup City.
Her hobbies included quilting, embroidering, word finds and enjoying the outdoors on her front porch swing. She was a wonderful cook and will be remembered for her chicken and noodles, lemon meringue pie and creamed peas. She spent a lot of time working in her yard, gardening and canning.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Kay Gould of Arcadia; a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Dale Coons of Arcadia; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 10 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; four great-great grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Alberta and Carl Mendyk of Arcadia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; a son-in-law, Larry Rickerson; one brother, Kenneth Hunt; two sisters, Lucille and Frieda John; a step infant brother and a step infant sister.
