Anna Marie Jahn, age 57, presently of North Platte, died Saturday morning June 23, 2012, at 7:21 a.m., at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center, as the result of a severe fall and stroke.
Anna Marie was born July 12, 1954, in Kansas City, Mo., to Keith and Alyce Mary (Boyd) Jahn and she was the only child of this union. In 1963, the family moved back to Falls City to take over the family trucking business, Jahn Livestock Transportation, which later became Jahn Transportation.
Anna Marie graduated from Falls City High School in 1972 and spent the rest of her life living with her parents, caring and sharing life with them. In 1977, the family moved to Richmond, Va., where Anna Marie worked for the Hyatt Regency Hotel as the hotel telephone operator until they returned to Falls City in 1999.
Her mother, Alyce Mary (Boyd, Handley) Jahn died March 3, 2004, and shortly thereafter, due to the disease of diabetes, Anna Marie lost her eyesight and had to go onto dialysis for her kidneys. In 2010, Anna Marie was moved to North Platte to be close to the Dialysis Center and she remained there until her death.
Until Anna Marie lost her eyesight, she was an accomplished piano and organ player; she had a beautiful voice and sang solos and at times, sang in a trio with her Mom and Dad. She loved to sew, embroidery, quilt, draw, paint and read and had a good sense of humor she shared with all she met.
Anna Marie is preceded in death by her mother; her paternal grandparents, Mike and Maude Jahn of Falls City; maternal grandparents, Fred and Lela Boyd of Nemaha; her aunt, Wilma (Boyd) Thomas of Topeka, Kan.; two great infant nieces Laipple of Wathena, Kan.; half-sister, Wilma Jean Jahn of Falls City, and many aunts and uncles including Bill Jahn of Falls City.
Anna Marie is survived by her father, (Poppy) Keith Jahn and wife Lois Gordon of Purdum; half brothers, Logan B. Handley and wife June of Midlothian, Va., Martin Jahn and wife Grace from Verdon, Lynn A Handley and wife Shirley from Wathena, Kan.; half-sisters, Diana K (Handley) Jahn and partner Agatha Forsyth of Purdum, Barbara (Handley) Laipple and husband Jan of Wathena, Kan., Arlinda Sue (Jahn) Watson of Falls City and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins, and her little dog Tinker Bell.
A "Celebration of Life" will be July 15, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Zion United Church of Christ 65765 709 Rd (East of Falls City), Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name, to the Nebraska Diabetes association, the Nebraska Kidney Association, the North Platte and/or Sabetha Kansas dialysis Center or the Zion UCC Church would be much appreciated. The family thanks everyone who helped us and stood beside us so faithfully thoughout the last few years in caring for our Anna Marie. Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, is in charge of local arrangements.
