Bonita Sarah (Palmer) Dunbar, 93, of Taylor, Nebraska passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Custer Care Center in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
Bonnie was born March 3, 1920, to Percy T. and Mattie (Strohl) Palmer in rural Loup County. She grew up on the family farm south of Almeria. She attended grade school in a sod house at Hill View - District 34 - for six years and then two years in Almeria District. She graduated from Taylor High School in 1937.
Bonnie started teaching right out of high school. She taught one year in rural Custer County and three years at Look-Out district in Loup County.
On May 28, 1941, Bonnie was united in marriage to Arnold L. Dunbar at Broken Bow, Neb. To this union three children were born: Joyce Fern, Gerald Lynn and Sharyn Rae.
In 1942, they purchased a farm just south of Almeria and lived the rest of their married lives there. They were united and worked together for 64 years.
Bonnie loved her family and enjoyed being a part of whatever they were doing. She also enjoyed being part of the Almeria Ladies Club, quilting, crocheting, gardening, playing cards with friends and family and the Loup County Historical Society.
She is survived by her children: Joyce (Marvin) Dowse, Gerald (Carol) Dunbar, Sharyn Johnson. Grandchildren: Jackie (Louie) Ropers, Sheila (Tracy) Adkisson, Kelly (Bill) Saner, LuAnn (Troy) Schauda, Troy Dangler, Chelle (Rob) Smith and Chad (Kate) Dangler. Great-grandchildren: Tabbi (Ty) Seevers, Jenny (Keith) Killion, AJ (Abby) Ropers, Erin (Zach) Cox, Katie Ropers and fiancĂ© Darren Bolte, Kelsey Dangler, Sara Saner, Jordan Adkisson, Marissa McCurdy, Katie Adkisson, Hunter Dangler, Dillan Saner, Keaton Dangler, William Dangler, Pearce Smith, Tallin Schauda, Parker Smith, LoReena Schauda, Preston Smith, Travin Schauda. Great-great-grandchildren: Tatum and Tilden Seevers, Cameron Olney, Cort and Olivia Cox and Zac Simita. Two sisters-in-law Ethel Palmer and Hazel Dunbar and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold, granddaughter Melodie Dunbar, son-in-law Merle Johnson and brothers Gerald and Kenneth Palmer.
Services were conducted Sept. 19, 2013, at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent, Nebraska with Pastor Dennis Davenport officiating. Pallbearers were Louie Ropers Jr., Tracy Adkisson, Bill Saner, Troy Schauda, Rob Smith, and Terry Clements.
Burial was at the Almeria Cemetery near Almeria with Rhoad Funeral Home in charge
