Bow kicks off Christmas season

November 29, 2011

Santa made a much anticipated appearance in the Holiday Parade in Broken Bow Monday evening, then visited the kids afterward at the Municipal Building.

The Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce sponsored the annual Holiday Festival of Lights parade Monday evening through downtown Broken Bow. The nice weather brought out a large crowd for the parade which this year featured 19 entries, one of the best parades to date. Following the parade, Santa was at the Municipal Building visiting with the children, and the crowd was entertained by performances from JolRan Dance & Gymnastics Academy, Broken Bow Just for Kix, and the Custer County Community Chorus.

Christmas Parade

We really enjoyed the Christmas parade and the activities at the Municipal Building. The weather was great and all of the entries were wonderful.
The veterans on the motorcycles looked awesome. The only problem was that no one seemed to care what they represented. Where we were standing no one took off their hat or showed respect to the flag in remembrance of all those who have served and are currently serving our country. Someone said; "they didn't remind us." How sad is that, that we should need to reminded to show respect to our veterans and the flag.
I think we have become so used to enjoying all the freedoms we have that we forgetten that someone, a lot of someones, have made the sacrifice, some of them made the ultimate sacrifice, to make our way of life possible.
I hope the next time you see the American flag or one of our veterans that you take a moment and remember what they have done for us and our country. Then thank God for the prlivige of living in the USA!
