Broken Bow Brings Home Two SWC Championships

The Broken Bow Indians brought home two SWC Championships from North Platte Saturday. For the boys it all started back on Jan. 23 in Broken Bow when the #2 Seed Indians beat #7 Seed Gothenburg in Broken Bow 48-44. Broken Bow played #3 Seed Ainsworth in the semifinals in North Platte Friday and won 63-40 to put them in position to play #1 Seed Cozad in the Championship in North Platte Saturday. With only a minute gone in the third quarter Broken Bow found themselves down by 19 points. They fought back and the game ended in a tie 51-51 putting it in overtime. Broken Bow won the championship 53-51 when Padyn Borders scored the only two points in overtime by either team when he was fouled with 4.8 seconds left. He sunk both free throws.
The Lady Indians began their quest for a championship Jan. 23 in Broken Bow when the #3 Seed Indians played #6 Seed Valentine and won 51-29. Broken Bow played #2 Seed Ogallala in the semifinals in North Platte Friday and pulled out the win 49-46. Their win put them in position to play #5 Seed Minden i the championship game in North Platte Saturday. Broken Bow won the championship game in a heart stopper, 53-52.
